Teemore on Top in U12 Encounter
Sep. 24, 2016
U12 Division 1: Belcoo 1-8 v 1-14 Teemore
Teemore would hold the upperhand throughout this Under 12 contest as the rain lashed down at MacNean Park this morning, the Shamrock recording a 1-14 to 1-8 victory. From the outset the visitors made the running as Cian Murchy fired in an early goal and point.
Belcoo were slow to get going but midway through the first quarter they began to get some possession of the football around the middle sector, Sinead Barrett, Colum Higgins, Jack Greene and Mikayla Maguire working hard to move their side forward. Jack Greene was to land Belcoo's sole point in the period from an acute angle on the right wing. Teemore tough had added points from Jamie Curran and Daire McGrath to lead 1-3 to 0-1.
Teemore defender breaks out from the back in the first quarter
In the first minute of the second quarter Conor McKeown, who was as solid as ever at full back, took a ball off the goal-line. The O’Rahilly’s were doing well to curtail a lively Teemore attacking line as Sam Martin was strong in the tackle, carrying the ball out from defence and delivering good balls upfield with Niamh McAloon making turnovers while Michael Burns was showing for ball further forward.
Belcoo would work a slick move for their second point of the game, Sam Martin playing a good ball down the right to Cian White, his crossfield pass picked out Mikayla Maguire with time and space to slot the ball over the bar. Teemore though would have a good spell, they added three points in as many minutes. Jack Quinlan, Liam McEnri and Fionnan McGrath all on target. Jack Greene was to respond for Belcoo after a one two with Colum Higgins with McGrath slotting over the final score to leave it 1-7 to 0-3 at half time.

The third quarter seen Mikayla Maguire replace Cara Gray in goals but she too needed help to prevent the net being rattled. Niamh McAloon taking a ball off the line while Conor McKeown remained strong in front of Maguire, reading play and knocking dangerous high balls away. Further forward Jack Greene and Colum Higgins continued to battle gamely but Teemore still held sway. Full back Eoin Rice was excellent while wing forward Fionnan McGrath was heavily involved in creating the next couple of scores.
Jack Quinlan added these two points with Fionnan McGrath notching a third in this period. Eoin Corrigan hit a free while Michael Burns had got through one on one but a very tame effort for goal was easily saved by Teemore keeper Callum McGrath. There were a number of good pieces of defending from Cara Gray, Colum Higgins, Conor McKeown and Sam Martin in this period, with pressure and blocks denying the Shamrocks further scores. 1-10 to 0-4 by the end of Quarter 3.
Cara Gray gives chase in the 3rd Quarter
The visitors added four more early in the last quarter points to seal the win before making a number of substitutions. Belcoo had what proved to be their best spell in the final five minutes, registering 1-4. Eoin Corrigan slipping over a free after he was fouled, Michael Burns doing something similar before goalkeeper McGrath pushed an Eoin Corrigan shot at goal over the bar. Colum Higgins capped a hard-working hour with a fine point while with the final kick of the ball, Michael Burns poked in a close range goal for a final score of 1-14 to 1-8.
