U15 Girls Challenge with Shannon Gaels
Apr. 12, 2017
Our Under 14 girls have been out a few weeks training and having added some of last years crew to face Shannon Gaels U15's the side put up a good showing. 0-9 to 1-1 at the interval Shannon Gaels had held the upperhand. A much improved second half display from the young O'Rahilly's seen them register 1-5 but a physically stronger home side added four goals and four points to their tally for a 4-13 to 2-6 victory.
Back Row (L-R) Sam Martin, Cara Gray, Eimear Magee, Aine Barrett, Ciana McGrath, Niamh McAloon, Kira McGovern, Lana Shiels, Arlene Furey, Crona Higgins, Aoife Keaney.
Front Row (L-R) Eve Barrett, Rachel Nolan, Scarlett O'Connor, Siofra McAloon, Rhianne McGuinness, Sinead Barrett, Mikayla Maguire, Riona Keaney.
It was a great workout for our Girls who can take plenty of positives from the contest. Sam Martin carrying an ankle injury did goals and made a number of excellent stops throughout, her kickouts were great too. Cara Gray, Lana Shiels and Niamh McAloon produced very polished displays in defence, well timed tackles and constant pressure denied Shannon Gaels on numerous occasions.
Wing backs Scarlett O'Connor and Rhianne McGuinness worked tirelessly on strong opponents, the Belcoo pair seeing plenty of ball in the second half.
Aine Barrett and Sinead Barrett got onto a sight of possession as they drove the O'Rahilly's upfield and accounted for all but one of their sides tally over the hour. Eve Barrett, Riona Keaney and Rachel Nolan all added much needed spark to the attack when introduced while Siofra McAloon stuck tight at the back.
Arlene Furey, Ciana McGrath and Aoife Keaney got through a lot of work in the middle sector with Keaney grabbing a first half goal.
Training continues Tuesday from 7pm to 8.30pm.
