Strong Finish Sees Reserves Past Derrylin
May. 6, 2017
The Reserves recorded a 0-15 to 1-8 win over Derrylin in Belcoo on Saturday evening. The O'Rahilly's were full value for their success although they made hard work of it.
Having bossed the first half and opened up a 0-6 to 0-2 lead thanks in the most part to points from Gary Maguire, the hosts were to concede a goal coming to half time to lead by one at the break.
Derrylin managed to get themselves in front early in the second half before Belcoo outscored their opponents 0-7 to 0-2 in the closing quarter. The introduction of Aidan Leonard played a big part in the final outcome, Leonard heavily involved in Belcoo's best work late on. The O'Rahilly's defence, well marshalled by full back Shane McAloon, gave Derrylin nothing as they turned them over time after time while the strong surging runs of Dean McDermott & James Gillespie carved out several chances at the other end. Points were angled over by James Gilliespie, Niall Cullen, Gerard Mellor and Leonard to seal the victory as the O'Rahilly's followed up a good win in Maguiresbridge a fortnight ago with another here.
Team: Jack O'Dolan, James McAloon, Shane McAloon, Anthony Kerrigan, Brian Furey, Dean McDermott, Brendan McPartland, Gerard Mellor, James Gillespie, Michael McGourty, Ian Corrigan, Niall Cullen, Chris McCaffrey, Gary Maguire, Daire Keaney. Subs Aidan Leonard, Dominic Kerrigan.
