Erne Cup Division 2: Belcoo 0-15 v 2-12 Irvinestown
Belcoo Reserves seen their good run of form stopped by league leaders Irvinestown this evening as they went down 2-12 to 0-15.
Two second half goals ultimately undid the O'Rahilly's who will be annoyed they hadn't more scores on the board in the opening half, having created a number of great chances, a stray pass or kick into the block denied them.
Playing with a fair breeze in their favour in the opening half Belcoo led 0-7 to 0-3 at the interval. Dean McDermott slotting over in the first minute while Keelan Ward responded on 9minutes. Belcoo would end a thirteen minute period without a score, although, the had a host of chances in that period. Jonathan Feeley the scoretaker after a surging run.
Feeley followed up with a neat point from the right wing while Dean McDermott slotted another after good work from Marty Corrigan. Irvinestown though had a number of attacks however some great defending by Shane McAloon kept Belcoo's lead in tact.
The evergreen Shane Goan would drive upfield to register for his team while Belcoo responded, Aidan McGrath and Niall Cullen working the ball out of the corner for Cullen to angle over a fine score. Gary Maguire hit points either side of an Irvinestown score for a half time score of 0-7 to 0-3.
The second half was 30seconds old when a long ball into the danger area was gathered by Jerome Carleton and he turned and fired to the net. Ward would tie matters three minutes later and it was all to play for.
Chief score takers McDermott and Feeley both registered for the hosts while an excellent slick move upfield seen Michael McGourty hit a great point. Irvinestown though kept plugging away and they kicked two to remain just one down. 0-10 to 1-6 with 15minutes to play.
Belcoo pushed on, three in a row had them four ahead again. Gary Maguire, Jonathan Feeley and James Gillespie all on target for the hosts but Irvinestown were to finish much stronger.
Two quick points before a good goal launched them into the lead. The visitors tore through a tired Belcoo side and slotted over three more points to move clear 2-11 to 0-13.
Jonathan Feeley and Keelan Ward traded scores before a late Gary Maguire free left three between them as the game entered added extra time. The goal chance never materialised and with it went Belcoo's hopes of a 7th straight league win.
