Great U11 Girls Challenge With Shannon Gaels

Belcoo and Shannon Gaels played an Under 11 challenge game on a beautiful Saturday morning and it was a fantastic contest. All girls showing well with high skill levels and work rate throughout. Belcoo edging the contest 3-12 to 3-8.

It was tight from the start over the two 25minute halves. Eve Barrett slotted a fine point in the opening minute before she knocked over a long range free when Cairenn McGrath was fouled. Shannon Gaels would break downfield to register the next three points, Elise Moffat among the scores for the visitors.
There was some good play by Sam Martin, Siofra McAloon and Riona Keaney as Belcoo worked another great point, Eve Barrett on the end of the move to cleverly fist a point.

Ciara Parker and Megan Maguire were going well in the full back line, Parker making a fine block to deny a score but Shannon Gaels would pen back Belcoo for five minutes and knocked in 1-2. Rachel Nolan's good kickout eased the pressure as Eve Barrett gathered possession out wide. She turned and played a great kickpass to Riona Keaney who weaved forward but fired wide.
Shannon Gaels would kick another point but Belcoo finished with a goal, Scarlett O'Connor and Eve Barrett combining for O'Connor to net. Half time 1-6 to 1-3 to Shannon Gaels.

Belcoo emerged from half time and made a bright start. Eve Barrett now operating in midfield was at the forefront of her sides best work. Defensively Emilie McCallion and Ciara Parker continued to do great work while good pressure was applied on the Shannon Gaels kickouts by Cairenn McGrath, Rachel Nolan and Eve Barrett which ensured Belcoo kept the visitors in their own half.
Belcoo hit the first five points of the second period to lead by two. Riona Keaney with the first before Eve Barrett slotted four in a row, two of which were excellent efforts from play.

Rachel Nolan then found the net from close range to move Belcoo 2-8 to 1-6 ahead. Back came Shannon Gaels, a quick 1-2 by the visitors levelling matters with 10minutes to play. Abbie Moffat and Sam Martin had a fierce battle in midfield. Serena McKeown was in goals now for Belcoo and her accurate kickouts to Siofra McAloon, Sam Martin and Scarlett O'Connor allowed Belcoo to push upfield again.
Eve Barrett, Riona Keaney and Scarlett O'Connor all hit points while there were good turnovers from McCallion, McGrath and Nolan to create the chances.

Shannon Gaels broke to fire in their third goal but Belcoo went start down the field and Eve Barrett poked to the net from close range while Scarlett O'Connor raced in for the final point of an absorbing and enjoyable game. 3-12 to 3-8. Well done to all.
