Juniors: Belcoo 0-10 Teemore 0-9
May. 15, 2010
This game was played in atrocious weather conditions on Saturday evening and it was Belcoo who held on for victory having led for the majority of the game. The poor conditions ensured there was to be little free flowing football as numerous hand and kick passes went astray throughout the game.
It was Teemore who opened the scoring thanks to a Kieran Brady free kick after 4minutes. Over the next 10 minutes the sides were level on three occasions, Belcoo's points coming from Gary Magurie (2) and Niall Cullen while Eugene Wynne was among the point takers for the away side.
Belcoo played against the wind in the first period but having dominated possession they couldn't turn attacks into scores which allowed Teemore to stay in touch. A free from Gary Maguire and an Aidan McGrath point left the scores tied at 0-5 each as half time approached before Centre Half Back Eoin Leonard got forward and scored from an acute angle. Ian Corrigan got his first point on the stroke of half time to leave Belcoo 0-7 to 0-5 up at the break.
Teemore started the second half quickly and within two minutes they had pegged back the half time deficit through Robbie Kernan and Declan Fitzpatrick scores. Ian Corrigan reponsed before Kieran Brady levelled things again but that was to be Teemore's last point for 20minutes as Belcoo took complete control of the game.
Although having all the ball, scores were still very hard to come by in this second period for Belcoo. The game went 10minutes without a score before Paddy McGinley moved Belcoo into a 0-9 to 0-8 lead. Sean McNulty then scored from long range to open up a two point lead with 8minutes left. Teemore got a late score but Belcoo were the better side throughout and duly collected the two points on offer to take them to the top of the table.
There were good performances from Shane McAloon at full back, Stephen Nolan was always an outlet at half back while Aidan McGrath and Nevan Higgins showed well for ball over the hour.
