U12s Beat Aughdrumsee In Driving Rain
Aug. 23, 2017
U12 SECTION B: Belcoo 6-20 (32) v 4-11 (19) Aughadrumsee
It was a good win for the under 12s in this 10 a side game on a damp Wednesday evening. Fair play to Aghadrumsee who traveled with an understrength team to McNean Park. The home side started strongly with 1-4 from the boot of Eoin Corrigan followed by 1-1 from Michael Burns before Corrigan split the posts for the 5th time. Sam Martin had an excellent game in midfield winning kickouts and driving the ball forward along with Sinead Barrett doing well in the half forward line.
Sam Martin had a great hour in midfield for the O'Rahilly's v Aughadrumsee
It was ten minutes into the game before the visitors registered a point from a free kick and a second from play. Michael Burns put over another point before Nathan McGovern poached a dirty ball to find the back of the net, following a good pass from Lisa Lavery on the way in. The latter part of the first half was dominated by the O’Rahilly’s who registered another goal (left footed strike from Eoin Corrigan) and three more points from the hardworking Michael Burns.
Aghadrumsee responded with a well worked goal tearing through the heart of the Belcoo defence with a powerful drive to find the back of the net. The home side responded in kind with Eoin Corrigan again rippling the net and Michael Burns tagging on another point for good measure. The visitors scored another goal and a point before the break to leave it 5-12 to 2-5 in Belcoo’s favour at half time.
Belcoo scored the first point of the second half, but then the visitors hit a purple patch scoring four points without reply. The solid back line of Siofra McAloon and Cara Grey were working overtime to repel the onslaught of Aghadrumsee attacks. Then Michael Burns finally got the home side going again with a well aimed score from wide right, unfortunately Aghadrumsee found their way through Belcoo’s defence shortly after to finish smartly past Lorcan Leonard’s flailing arms.
Michael Burns moves forward to pop over another good point
Nathan Carroll Magee (who started the match in goals) provided a good outlet for Lorcan Leonard’s kickouts at this juncture, along with Eve Barrett and Eimear Grey who also showed for plenty of ball when asked to do so. The home side had the majority of possession from here on but continued to go for goals when point scoring would have been the better option.
The purposeful running of the forwards which included Thomas Parker, Rhys Ray and Finn Maes were often overlooked in the thirst of another goal. After an angry rant from their manager the young O’Rahilly’s began to listen and popped over six points before the finish with the visitors registering another goal and two points in the same period. Final score Belcoo 6-20 (32) Aghadrumsee 4-11 (19).
