Devenish Too Powerful In Playoff
Oct. 9, 2017
U13 Sectional Playoff Game 1: Belcoo 0-3 v 1-8 Devenish
Devenish produced a dominant display in the u13 playoff this evening before eventually putting the scores on the board late on to run out deserved winners. There was just a point between them with 6minutes to play but 1-4 in a matter of moments thanks to some powerful play by the visitors got them over the line.
A Devenish player holds firm under a challenge from Scarlett O'Connor
Devenish held sway for the first ten minutes as they penned back Belcoo. Winning kickouts and all breaking balls as the hosts struggled badly to gain possession. A third minute point was followed by a Chantelle Timoney free kick and really the visitors squandered some good openings for other scores while a combination of Riona Keaney and Cara Gray kept out other attempts.
Belcoo would eventually turn the ball and having got it upfield they tied proceedings with two points in 60seconds from Sinead Barrett. An interception and simple fist pass from Eimear Magee set Barrett away for her first before she slotted over a placed ball.
Magee was to have a good opening half stemming a number of attacks while Ciara Nolan and Sam Martin battled gamely in midfield. For all the possession Devenish held, it was 0-2 each at the interval.
Rhianne McGuinness trys to take Belcoo upfield coming to half time
Devenish began sharply in the second half like they did the first and quickly added points from Hannah Murphy and Chantelle Timoney. The two defences then got on top for 10minutes. Ciara McGuinness brave in the face of much bigger opponents driving at her, she never shirked a tackle. Siofra McAloon continues to do well on the wing with Eimear Gray working hard to keep her opponent quiet.
Cara Gray drove the side upfield throughout the second half with Rhianne McGuinness getting stuck in at wing back. Sam Martin and Sinead Barrett continued to see a lot of the ball for the O’Rahilly’s with Ciara Nolan working really hard throughout while Scarlett O’Connor and Eve Barrett remained the brighter of the forwards this evening.
Sinead Barrett would put just a point between them with 6minutes to play but it ignited the Devenish surge for the finish as they rattled off 1-4 without reply for a 1-8 to 0-3 victory.
