Seniors : Roslea 0-10 Belcoo 1-11
Jun. 6, 2010
Belcoo travelled to Roslea on Saturday evening for the first 'starred' match of the year and returned home winners by four points despite playing the last 27minutes with only 13players.
It was Roslea who started the better of the two sides and after 20minutes they held a 0-7 to 0-3 lead. For Belcoo Emmet Scollan had a point sandwiched between two Ronan Ferguson scores from play. Sean Quigley was the main contributor for the home side as they established this early advantage.
Belcoo were to finish the half strong and following a quickly taken free kick by Shane McCabe, Kieran Leonard fed brother Gavin Leonard who fired into the bottom right hand corner to reduce the deficit to just one point. Roslea almost responsed immediately but James McGrath was forced to make a good save to deny the home side a goal.
A late surge of points from Ferguson, John Carrigan and a well worked score from wing back Ryan Dolan seen Belcoo move ahead for the first time in the match 1-6 to 0-7.
Moments before the interval Shane McCabe received a harsh red card to reduce Belcoo to 14men. Within three minutes of the restart and without another point been scored Belcoo's Christopher Leonard picked up a second yellow card and Belcoo were down to 13men.
Roslea pointed before Ronan Ferguson responded with a free kick. A goal bound effort from Sean Quigley was tipped over by McGrath before Belcoo went down and registered a number of scores to opened up a four point lead. Firstly John Carrigan kicked an outrageous sideline ball and another freekick before Ronan Ferguson got a great score from play. Another Ferguson point late on was matched by a Roslea point but Belcoo retained the ball well over the closing stages as the ran out winners.
In the end it was a well deserved victory following an entralling second half which had their supporters in full voice throughout. Belcoo have now recorded seven wins from their seven games.
