LADIES 9 a side: Lisnaskea 5-13 v 5-3 Belcoo
The Senior Ladies would go down to a young Lisnaskea side on a 5-13 to 5-3 scoreline in the 9 a side league this evening. The hosts hitting two purple patches, the first in the closing few minutes of the opening half while they had a good ten minute spell emidway through the second half to carve out a lead they never looked like losing.
It was nip and tuck for most of the first half. Belcoo were under a bit of pressure defensively but some excellent play by Leona McNulty, Aoibhinn Gallagher and Michelle Cullen thwarted several dangerous attacks. It was going forward the visitors struggled in the early stages, chances were few and far between.
Lisnaskea had 1-2 on the board before Crona Higgins, who got through a mountain of work in midfield, raced in and cleverly fisted a point as pressure was being applied. Linda McGovern drilled over moments later when well placed but the home side broke downfield to score.
Belcoo got themselves back into the contest with the introduction of Amanda McGrath, she drove in from the right wing and planted the ball into the net, Linda McGovern followed up with a long range point to leave it 1-5 to 1-3 in Lisnaskea's favour with five minutes to go to half time.
Those few minutes were to be dominated by the home team, they ran in three goals and a point to sit 4-6 to 1-3 up at the interval. Courtney Ray had made one good save and got hands on two of the goals, the powerful strikes beating her. She was to be replaced by Tara Feeley having sustained damage to her wrist.
Feeley’s kickouts were very good, finding Crona Higgins and Collette Rice on several occasions. Leona McNulty made two great blocks early in the half while she robbed and dispossessed several attackers, clearing the ball to fellow O’Rahillys as Emma McNulty and Aoibhinn Gallagher worked hard. Seana Feeley showed well in the second period with Crona Higgins continuing to have fine game taking her side up the field.
Belcoo got themselves back into the game with two goals in the space of five minutes, Linda McGovern and Seana Feeley rattling the net with low drives for cut the deficit back to six points. Lisnaskea would go on the point trail as they kicked six in a row to put a dozen between the sides again.
Belcoo kept plugging away, Lana Shiels was now in goals and made a good save, the visitors worked the ball the length of the field with McNulty, Higgins and Rice involved before Seana Feeley raced in for a well taken goal. Lisnaskea went straight down the field to score a goal themselves but Belcoo netted again. Feeley with a similarly well taken effort after Crona Higgins and Amanda McGrath retained possession well in the led up to the goal.
