It was nip and tuck throughout a frantic opening quarter before Belcoo had a strong finish to the opening half. A bright start to the second period moved Belcoo into a commanding position but Ederney battled back with a powerful finish to the game however the O’Rahilly’s had enough done to claim the cup.
The scoreboard ticked from minute one as Ellie Carrigan tapped over a close range free for Ederney before the lively Eve Barrett fastened onto a ball and split the posts for Belcoo. Ciana McGrath followed up with a point before player of the match Sinead Barrett raced 50yards downfield to net the game’s first goal in the 6th minute. Ederney would hit back as the game flowed from end to end, 1-3 recorded in a five minute spell to give them a 1-4 to 1-2 lead.
Belcoo got to grips with their opponents at this juncture have reshuffled a few things, better pressure been applied and sharper to loose balls they began to play some good football. The excellent Siofra McAloon claimed a ball she’d no right to win in the right corner back spot, she worked the ball out to Sam Martin who found Sinead Barrett and away she scampered for a second goal. Belcoo 2-2 to 1-4 ahead with fifteen minutes on the clock.
From here to the interval Belcoo dominated, the were to pin Ederney back and kicked several neat scores after some good passages of play. Other chances were squandered but it was a profitable period for the hungry O’Rahilly’s.

Aine Barrett was seeing plenty of the ball and working tirelessly, she was rewarded with 1-3 during this spell while Scarlett O’Connor linked play and assisted a number of Barrett’s scores.
O’Connor would land two excellent points from the right wing herself before Ciana McGrath netted from close range and Cara Gray did likewise after more good play by Sinead Barrett.
Sam Martin was getting through a mountain of work in the middle section curtailing Katie Teague with Eimear Magee growing into the tie at centre back. Ederney would just land two points over the closing 15minutes of the first half, the McAloon sisters rock solid at the back, ably assisted by Aoife Keaney and Rhianne McGuinness. Half time Belcoo 5-7 v 1-6 Ederney.
Belcoo would begin the second period well, their best bit of play of the game yielded a 33rd minute goal for Eve Barrett. Sinead, Scarlett, Aine, Ciana and Aine again all involved in a neat hand pass exchange before Eve drilled into the corner.
Ciana McGrath would eventually net a goal in a bit of a scramble, the woodwork hit for the third time in the build up before her shot went straight through the keeper. Eve Barrett was to kick a nice point but it all was to change as Ederney came roaring back having brought their goalkeeper Aine Walsh out of goals. Belcoo were 7-8 to 1-7 ahead at this point in the tie but a seven minute spell of pressure seen Ederney rattle three goals and a point to turn the game back into a tense affair, 7-8 to 4-8 with 10minutes to play.
Belcoo were rightly rattled but steadied themselves again, Rhianne McGuinness and Siofra McAloon came out with good ball. Mikayla Maguire was a great last line of defence and made two saves whilst she was quick off her line to thwart other dangerous moments. Long kickouts to blue jerseys also eased the pressures as Belcoo reasserted control.
A long period without a score from the O’Rahilly’s was ended when Sinead Barrett cantered forward at pace to hit the net. Belcoo managed to pin back Ederney for a short spell, Aine Barrett rattled a goal and Sam Martin capped a hardworking hour with a fine point. Ederney had time to muster a late rally but stout defending seen them just hit 1-1 to leave Belcoo winners on the night by a 9-9 to 5-9 scoreline.
It was a great end to an unbeaten season in the league for our girls who have had their heartbreaks in other finals down through the years. The hard work is paying off as this group claim their first piece of silverware this evening.
