Senior Men Ease Past Derrylin

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Derrylin 2-8 v 2-15 Belcoo

The Senior Men recorded back to back league wins as they travelled to Derrylin and returned 2-15 to 2-8 winners in a decent affair. It took a third quarter burst from the O’Rahilly’s to secure the win after an even enough opening half, Belcoo registering a superb goal on the stroke of half time from Jonathan Feeley to leave them three up at the break.

In the early exchanges the sides traded points. Goalkeeper Gary Doherty stroked the first score of the game from a 45 before Derrylin slotted two from play. Paul McGrath who pop over a free with Jonathan Feeley adding a point from play but it was to be 0-3 each soon after.

Derrylin would find themselves four point by the 20th minute mark, a blocked clearance in the Belcoo defence ended up in the net while a point was also tagged on. Belcoo had been playing well, moving the ball swiftly into a lively full forward line, their conversion rate left a lot to be desired at this juncture.

Over the closing ten minutes of the half though they upped it another bit. Brian Cox and Christopher Leonard dominate in midfield with the McGrath brothers supplying good ball into the forward line. Jonathan Feeley and Paul McGrath tagged on scores while Conor McAloon kicked a great score from the left wing. Feeley slotted another from play before a fine move seen Dean McDermott offload to the ball to Feeley who weaved is way through the Derrylin defence before thumping a shot into the top right corner to give Belcoo a 1-7 to 1-4 half time lead.

The O’Rahilly’s made a blistering start to the second period as they ran riot for 10minutes, picking off come great scores after some real slick passages of play. Jonathan Feeley, Eoin Shiels, Conor McAloon and Paul McGrath all on target from play while Gary Doherty stroked another 45 to push Belcoo into a commanding position at 1-12 to 1-4.

While the scoring dried up a bit Belcoo were still controlling the play, Derrylin  managed a pointed free but Feeley responded with a placed ball of his own while Philip Leonard knocked over a fine score from the left wing.

Derrylin would net a goal to cut the deficit to six points at 1-14 to 2-5 but Belcoo would go down and bundle in a second goal of their own via Dean McDermott with Jonathan Feeley adding a point. Three late points were registered by the home side who also missed a penalty, Gary Doherty at full stretch to save the effort from Barry Murray as Belcoo ran out 2-15 to 2-8 winners.
