Another Narrow Win For Senior Men Against Enniskillen

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Belcoo 1-11 v 1-10 Enniskillen Gaels
The Senior Men recorded a second one point win over Enniskillen Gaels in the space of 12days when they claimed a 1-11 to 1-10 success at a sun soaked MacNean Park on Wednesday evening. The defeat is a third straight loss for the visitors who had won all of their opening eight fixtures while Belcoo move into 4th place in the league, this a fourth straight league victory for the O’Rahilly’s.
It was a tentative start from both sides, easy point scoring opportunities squandered on both sides and by the first water break on 17minutes it was 0-3 a piece. Defenders Ryan Leonard and Niall McGovern had both joined the attacks to claim well taken scores while Paul McGrath clipped over a free having been brought down following a long run.
The Gaels would hit their goal on 20minutes when a long ball seen full back Niall Leonard lose sight of the all in the blinding sun, Brian McAleer seized his opportunity and slid the ball to the net.
The Belcoo response was an impressive one, they registered four unanswered points to hold a 0-7 to 1-3 interval. Brian Cox and Shane McCabe were at the hub of the O’Rahilly’s best work, Jonathan Feeley registered from play and a free while both Niall Cullen and Aaron Dolan kicked excellent points from distance.
The last act before the second half water break due to the sweltering conditions on 47minutes seen Belcoo fire in their goal, some great work by Brian Cox down the field seen him play Niall Cullen in on goal, his attempt wasn’t the cleanest of strikes but it made its way into the right corner for a goal, it gave Belcoo a 1-10 to 1-5 advantage at this juncture, Cox and Cullen had points from play on the board while Feeley knocked over a free.
The Gaels rallied after water break, five points in a row to tie matters as the game moved towards it conclusion. Belcoo were to venture forwards a few minutes from time, Jonathan Feeley breaking in from the left wing to kick what proved to be the winning score. Enniskillen however that three wide’s in added time which included a Brian McAleer 45 that tailed wide with the last kick of the contest.
Belcoo travel to Newtownbutler on Sunday at 1pm as they look to continue their good run of form.
