Senior Men Make It Eight Wins In A Row

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Belcoo 1-17 v 1-14 Derrylin
Belcoo Senior Men made it eight wins on the spin with a 1-17 to 1-14 success at the splendid surroundings of MacNean Park on Sunday lunchtime as they seen off the challenge of Derrylin. Tied with 20minutes to play, Belcoo hit six in a row to push clear and ultimately win the contest.
In the opening exchanges it was the O’Rahilly’s who’d began well as Paul McGrath and Aaron Dolan (2) had the home side off to a fine start. Derrylin cut the deficit to one with two points.
Things continued to be quite open with chances coming at both ends, scores were traded as Gary Maguire and Paul McGrath pointed for Belcoo before Derrylin struck their goal to put them ahead 1-4 to 0-5.
Belcoo’s response was almost immediate, they broke downfield but Aaron Dolan seen his shot hit the underside of the crossbar, bounce down and be gathered by a Derrylin defender. The hosts would kick a few scores, Gary Maguire, Conor McAloon and Paul McGrath all on target as they edged themselves back into the contest before half time.

In the final few minutes they got themselves ahead, Dean McDermott popped over a point while Niall Cullen rattled a goal when he snapped onto a loose ball inside the 14m box to fire into the roof of the net. Half time 1-9 to 1-7 to Belcoo.
Paul McGrath would open the scoring in the second half but Derrylin were to hit three in a row to tie matters at 1-10 a piece. Belcoo would click into gear and rattle off a half dozen points to affectly claim their success. James McGrath launching over a great score from distance to start the run off. Aaron Dolan added the next with Goalkeeper Gary Doherty coming forward to kick a 45. Captain Niall McGovern hit an excellent score from the right wing with Paul McGrath knocked over a free before Dolan made it 1-16 to 1-10.
Derrylin applied good pressure in the closing moments, four points were kicked while they struck the post going for goal. Belcoo would hit one more before the finish, Gary Doherty coming from his goals to land a 48metre free.
