It's 9 Wins In A Row For The Seniors
Jul. 27, 2018
SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Belcoo 3-16 v 0-10 Brookeboro
The Senior Men extended their winning run to 9 games with a comfortable 3-16 to 0-10 victory over Brookeboro in Belcoo this evening. Right from the outset the hosts signalled their intent as Brookeboro defenders needed to foul to stop the attacks of the O’Rahilly’s. Paul McGrath angled over the opening deadball from wide on the left before Aaron Dolan kicked a fine score on his left foot while McGrath slotted a more routine placed ball.
Brookeboro would hit five points in the first half, all frees, two of these were scored before Brian Cox gathered a kickout, played a one two with Aaron Dolan and drove in for a goal after the keeper had saved the initial effort. 1-3 to 0-2.
It would advance to 1-5 to 0-5 by the 20th minute, both Aaron Dolan and Paul McGrath landing neat points from play after some patient build up play.
The O’Rahilly’s were hit a scoring spurt coming to half time as they registered four unanswered points. Eoin Shiels went the length of the field down the right wing playing a number of passes before slotting over a great score. Dean McDermott followed suit and hit a fine point before Paul McGrath knocked over a free and landed a well taken one from play for a 1-9 to 0-5 interval lead.
Belcoo held sway for the majority of the second period as they pushed clear. Two more Brookeboro points were hit by the midway stage in the half, Belcoo though had hit four. Barry McGovern, Paul McGrath (2) and Dean McDermott left it 1-13 to 0-7.
The hosts were to be awarded a penalty after an incisive bit of play by the energetic Gerard McHugh, who put Aaron Dolan in before he was fouled. Paul McGrath duly dispatched the penalty to the net.
Further points were added after some free flowing moves by Gary Maguire and Dean McDermott before a slick counter attack seen Aaron Dolan put Paul McGrath in for a second goal, slotting low into the corner. Brookeboro rallied at the death kicking three in a row before a great interception by Brian Cox seen Belcoo break upfield and Barry McGovern kick a point with what was the last act of the contest.
The victory mathematically secures Belcoo’s place in the top 4 with two games remaining. They host Aughadrumsee on Tuesday at 7.30pm before they host Teemore on Friday at 7.30pm.
