Ten Straight Wins For Senior Men

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Belcoo 3-13 v 2-5 Aughadrumsee

The Senior Men recorded a tenth straight league win on Tuesday evening as they beat Aughadrumsee 3-13 to 2-5 at MacNean Park in what was the penultimate league fixture of the season. They finish this Friday night with a home game against league leaders Teemore, throw in 7.30pm.

The made a blistering start to proceedings, Aaron Dolan knocked over an early point before he set Paul McGrath up for the first goal, McGrath rounding the keeper and tapping into an empty net. Moments later McGrath broke through for another goal, a recovering defender blocked the ball on the line but Philip Leonard drilled the rebound to the net. 2-1 to no score with 7minutes played.

Eddie Courtney would account for all of his sides three points in the opening half, his first from play before slotting a free and 45.

Belcoo though would cut through for four more points of there own. Paul McGrath drove in and fisted a point having taken a pass from Conor McAloon. Brian Cox was next to drive in for a close range point while Eoin Shiels joined the attack to kick a fine score from distance. Paul McGrath kicked the last score of the half from distance after Brian Cox was fouled to give his side a 2-5 to 0-3 interval lead.

Aughadrumsee started brightly but didn’t register a score. Half time sub for the home side Gerard McHugh was to kick two similar points in quick succession from the right wing to extend Belcoo’s advantage to ten points but Aughadrumsee struck their first goal.

Dean McDermott, Niall Cullen and Brian Cox all registered good points after some free flowing football from the O’Rahilly’s. The visitors did hit one of their own but Belcoo continued to drive forward in numbers. Aaron Dolan and Gary Maguire the next pair to split the posts as the hosts pushed out into a 2-12 to 1-4 lead.

Aughadrumsee did hit a goal but Belcoo’s response was immediate, captain Niall McGovern making a great catch in the middle of the field and playing a sublime ball into Ian Corrigan who turned and coolly slotted the ball into the top right corner for 3-12 to 2-4. Over the closing moments both sides hit a point, Niall Cullen the scorer for the home side.
