Senior League Concludes With Loss To Teemore

SENIOR LEAGUE DIVISION 2: Belcoo 2-7 v 2-10 Teemore
The Senior Men completed their 18 game league programme with a 2-10 to 2-7 defeat at home to Teemore who finished the season on top of the table. Belcoo’s third place finish means they will play Enniskillen Gaels in 8 weeks time (yes 8 weeks), the weekend 28th/29th September to see who will get promoted to Division 1 while Teemore take on Belnaleck with the same prize at stake.
This game began with a goal, Niall Leonard’s attempted shot from the right into the wind broke for the on-rushing Gerard McHugh to volley into the net. Dean McDermott followed up with a well taken score Teemore hit three in a row. Paul McGrath landed a free before Teemore levelled matters at 0-5 to 1-2.

The visitors would then hit the front, Eugene Wynne turning his marker and running through to register a goal while Eoin McManus knocked over a point giving them a four point lead coming to half time. Belcoo were to hit a second goal, Paul McGrath angled ball inside seen Philip Leonard gather and take on his man, Leonard was fouled inside the square, goalkeeper James McGrath came up to net the penalty while Belcoo’s Ryan Leonard struck the crossbar going for goal moments later, keeper Declan O’Reilly’s getting fingertips to the effort. Half time score of Belcoo 2-2 v 1-6 Teemore.
Belcoo had the better of the opening period in the second half in terms of control and ball possession but they failed to yield a score. Jack O’Dolan went into goals for Belcoo with James McGrath moving outfield, Teemore pressed on ahead after a number of missed chances by the O’Rahilly’s while they thundered in a second goal on the break as they pushed into a 2-8 to 2-2 lead.

Paul McGrath would register two frees for his side while Brian Cox and Dean McDermott both pointed from play however Teemore had kept the score board ticking also to move 2-10 to 2-6 clear. James McGrath fired over the last score of the game while a goal Belcoo needed to level matters never materialised.
The League is now parked for 2 full months for Championship Action. Belcoo will play Division 1 side Ederney in the Senior Championship Quarter Final on Sunday 19th August at 6.30pm in Tempo.
