The visitors would pin back the home side during this spell. Donna Feeley won several breaking balls to create chances for her side. The first score of the game came on 2minutes when Feeley snapped up a loose ball, fed Tina Gallagher on the left and see slipped it off to the supporting Lisa Stewart who knocked over a fine score.
Donna Feeley would claim the next kickout, she found Amanda McGrath with a good pass and McGrath duly split the posts. Feeley got in on the act next when she netted the first goal of the game. Arlene Furey doing well to turnover a Maguiresbridge player, Feeley got on the ball, played a one-two with McGrath and thumped the ball to the net.
The forwards were moving and shifting the ball well through the hands, Feeley, McGrath and Stewart all involved before the latter passed infield to Seana Feeley for a well taken point while McGrath did well out on the right sideline to keep the ball in play as Arlene Furey raced upfield for a point from an acute angle. The O’Rahilly’s would squander a few chances of the next few minutes before they found the shooting boots again.
Leona McNulty was strong on the left to claim a ball she’d no right to win, she played a great pass into Seana Feeley who turned and raced in for a goal. Lisa Stewart followed up with a free when Seana was fouled moments later to push Belcoo into a 2-5 to no score lead.
This evenings Team that faced Maguriesbridge
Maguiresbridge had their best period of the opening half when Caitlin McCaffrey hit a quick 1-1. Some great kickouts and clearances from Linda McGovern seen Belcoo work back up the field to add to their tally. Aoife Keaney found Donna Feeley on the right and she carried the ball some 60yards before finding the top corner with a fabulous finish.
Lisa Stewart was net to get among the goals as she galloped the lenght of the field in similar fashion to Feeley moments earlier and she found the left corner of the net with a decent strike. Belcoo made it three goals in a row on 22minutes, Stewart playing a long ball into Tina Gallagher who hit the post with her shot but Donna Feeley was on hand to gather, side step her player and find the net.
The closing five minutes of the half yielded four points for Belcoo, Tina Gallagher hitting two with Donna Feeley and Amanda McGrath also finding the target. Crona Higgins had got through a lot of work in this half with Arlene Furey and Leona McNulty preventing Maguiresbridge making any notable counter attacks. Half time Maguiresbridge 1-1 v 5-9 Belcoo.
The home side netted a goal within a minute of the restart but Belcoo would keep them scoreless for the next 25minutes. Rachel O’Dolan & Aoife Keaney at the back, had much more to do in the second half and they did it real well, coming out with balls time and time again, ably assisted by a fine performance from Leona McNulty.
Tina Gallagher registered Belcoo’s first score of the half, a point after Donna Feeley had cracked a shot against the crossbar. A really strong and powerful run from Seana Feeley seen her register an excellent score from distance while good work between Arlene Furey and Amanda McGrath set up Tina Gallagher for another point. 5-12 to 2-1 at this juncture.
Tina Gallagher’s last act of the evening was to drill in an excellent goal having gathered a great 45 from Lisa Stewart. Aine Barrett and Lana Shiels entered the fray and made immediate impacts, Aine running through and drilling a shot against the crossbar, the rebound came out to Lisa Stewart and she duly fired over from 20yards. Stewart hit her sides next score from a free before a good move down the right between Keaney and Stewart seen Arlene Furey get in for a well taken goal.
Another good long ball from Lisa Stewart sent Donna Feely clean through on goal and she hit the net for the fourth time. Feeley slotted a free kick before Lana Shiels seen a goal chance saved. Lisa Stewart completed the scoring from a long range free while Maguriesbridge would hit a late 1-1 for a final scoreline of 8-16 to 3-2 in Belcoo’s favour.
