Devenish Edge Reserve Game

ERNE CUP DIVISION 1: Devenish 0-11 v 1-7 Belcoo
Devenish edged a poor Reserve Men’s affair in Garrison by a single point on a windswept evening, the hosts 0-10 to 1-6 victors. Conditions definitely played there part in the standard on football on show. The game never sparked into any life as Devenish, who played against an incredible strong breeze in the opening half, registered the first three scores.
Ruairi Doherty with two close range frees either side of a Ciaran Mulrone point from play.
Belcoo took 11minutes to score, it was a fine pointed free from out on the left wing by Ronan Meehan. The O’Rahilly’s were struggling to get anything going, Gerard Mellor trying his best around the middle with Gary McGovern going rightly at wing back but the supply to Ian Corrigan, who’d made many’s a good run, hadn’t been great, some overhit, others the defenders side meaning the home team were on the offensive again.
Tristan Treacy got forward to put three between them on 20minutes however Ronan Meehan knocked over a great point from play for Belcoo. The O’Rahilly’s then hit the front with the games only goal. A good move started by Mellor in midfield and worked down the left between James Gillespie and Ronan Meehan seen Mellor join the attack 25metres out, he broke through on goal, the keeper saved the effort with Ian Corrigan on hand to roll the rebound into the net.
Ian Corrigan then added a point but Devenish finished the half strongly, Gary Doherty making a superb save In the Belcoo goals however points from Darren Brady and Caolan Feeley for a draw at the break. 0-6 to 1-3.
Devenish began brightly with the wind now in their favour, two points in four minutes and they were looking like they were going to enjoy this half. Belcoo to their credit kept the ball much better playing into the wind.
Remarkably there wasn’t a score of any kind for a full 16minutes. Ronan Meehan pointing a free with 10minutes to play halving the deficit to one. 0-8 to 1-4.
Belcoo would level after a good move upfield, James Gillespie firing over when going for the top corner. Draw game. Meehan finished a great bit of work by Brendan McPartland with a score to send Belcoo to the lead however 30seconds later it was tied again, Mulrone responding.
Ruairi Doherty and Meehan trades frees as the game edged to added time level. Luke Robinson launching over a point from around the 45metre line to secure the victory for his side.
