Comfortable Win In Coa For Senior Men
Apr. 14, 2019
Senior League Division 2: Coa 0-5 v 3-20 Belcoo
The Senior Men bounced back from last weekends defeat with a comfortable win in Coa on Sunday afternoon. The hosts were without several of their key players and the game really was only a contest for a short period of time as Belcoo led by 10 at the interval and pushed further and further clear in the second half.
By the break it was 1-9 to 0-2. The Coa scores both coming from Darren McQuade but Belcoo had been dominant. They probably overplayed and overcrowded the scoring zone at times in the first half hour but they eventually found a good rhythm and started taking better options and seen the scoreboard start ticking.
All but one of the O’Rahilly’s scores on the day were from play, a Gary Doherty 45 in the closing stages the only set piece. Ciaran Flaherty opened the scoring, Jonathan Feeley was next to slot over before Flaherty registered his second via the inside of the post from the right wing. Paul McGrath and Philip Leonard got themselves on the scoreboard then before Flaherty (2) and Feeley had Belcoo 0-7 to 0-1 ahead.
Belcoo would register their first goal when Eoin Shiels did well on the right to release Ciaran Flaherty who drilled an excellent effort across the keeper into the bottom left corner. Darren McQuade responded with a free before Aaron Dolan got forward from wing back to raise a white flag while Feeley finished the scoring in the opening half.
Belcoo continued where they left off and the points were added at an increasing rate as they pinned back the home team. Jonathan Feeley, Aaron Dolan, Brian Cox and substitute Conor McAloon quickly added two when he was introduced to push his side 1-14 to 0-2 ahead.
The O’Rahilly’s got there second goal when Paul McGrath cut out a pass and Belcoo were in an overload situation. McGrath, Philip Leonard and Conor McAloon swiftly exchanged passes with the latter playing the ball across the goals for McGrath to tap the ball into the net.
Philip Leonard kicked a great point having caught a long kick pass, Conor McAloon and Paul McGrath also split the posts again before Ciaran Flaherty gathered a fine pass by Christopher Leonard and drove in to find the net with a carbon copy finish of his first half goal.
Two frees from Ryan Beacom and a good point from Gary Lynch was all Coa could muster in this half. Belcoo added three more before the finish, Doherty’s aforementioned 45, Philip Leonard and Dean McDermott rounding off the scoring on what was a comfortable hour for the visitors.
