U15s Undone By Gaels Goals
Apr. 20, 2019
U15 Boys Division 2: Belcoo 3-8 v 7-3 Enniskillen Gaels
It was a case of goals wins games this morning as Enniskillen rattled the net seven times while Belcoo had played some excellent football in spells and would surely have deserved something for their efforts over the hour.
The O’Rahilly’s made a superb opening to the contest hitting five fine points in the first seven minutes. Good direct play with first time touches and lay-off’s going to the hand, Jamie Ray (3), Eoin Corrigan and Michael Burns all on target.
Sean Boylan won some ball inside early on with Thomas Parker getting is hands on ball and helping make some turnovers. Josh Killilea done what he does, well positioned to cut out attacks, clever passes, plays and always finding a sky blue jersey from centre back he was dictating the game while Jamie Ray was putting in a powerful and all action display around centrefield.
The Gaels hadn’t managed to get forward at all during the first ten minutes but when they did, the soon fired in 1-1 to reduce the deficit to a single point. Jamie Ray responded with a goal on 14minute, fisting to the net after Eoin Corrigan had done well down the left wing but Belcoo wouldn’t score during the remaining 16minutes of the half.
The game was now being played in the defensive third of the field as Belcoo struggled to get out. The Gaels weren’t doing any damage to the scoreboard at this stage but the ball was coming back at the home defenders far too quickly. Conor McKeown made a fine block to deny a certain goal. A goal did come in the 24th minute though to cut the lead to just one before two goals in the final 30seconds of the half from the visitors catapulted them into a five point interval lead, 1-5 to 4-1.
Belcoo, similar to the first half, started brightly to register 1-2 and level proceeding at 2-7 to 4-1. Nathan McGovern landing a good point from play before Jamie Ray netted and Josh Killilea angled over a fine free with the outside of the boot.
Jamie Ray registered his third goal while Michael Burns popped over a point, 42minutes played and Belcoo were now 3-8 to 4-1 ahead.
The O’Rahilly’s though, didn’t score again, 18minutes the length without one this time and it allowed Enniskillen back into the contest. 44th & 47th minute goals put the visitors noses infront again.
Belcoo had their chances for scores, they were just wayward in their efforts over the closing stages. Defensively they were working hard, Jack Greene, Daniel O’Connor and Patrick Magee were all battling gamely, winning possession and moving their side forward.
The game remained in the melting pot until the final minute of normal time, a seventh Enniskillen goal killing the tie with points added for good measures. The Gaels victors by 7 in the end.
