Under 13 Girls Beaten In Division 1 League Final
Sep. 28, 2019
UNDER 13 DIVISION 1 Semi Final & Finals Day
Our Under 13 Girls reached the Division 1 League Final on Saturday morning following a 1-4 to 0-4 win over Tempo in a tough Semi Final. They produced a scintillating first half in the final with Kinawley to lead by one point at the interval before player of the match Orla Leonard kicked her side to a two-point victory.
Our girls yet again were fantastic, hungry, gusty and full of footballing quality they can be extremely proud of their efforts today and all year.

SEMI FINAL: Belcoo 1-4 v 0-4 Tempo
The day began with a fast-starting Tempo hitting two early points, it took the O’Rahilly’s a moment to adjust to the pace of what they seen in front of them but when the sky blues got motoring, they powered into a two point half time lead.
They levelled matters on 6minutes with a well taken goal (worth 2pts at U13 level). Cairenn McGrath won back the ball in her own defence, Caitlyn Nolan, Eimear Gray and Lisa Lavery were all involved before Rachel Nolan took possession and drilled low to the net.
The goal seen the side grow in confidence. Ciara Parker claimed the next kickout and fed Scarlett O’Connor coming off the shoulder and O’Connor angled over a great score. Some strong play by Abbie McGovern seen her retain the ball under serious pressure, she recycled to the impressive Eimear Gray who fisted infield to Eve Barrett who split the posts.

There was some excellent work in the defence from Megan Maguire in this game while Siofra McAloon remained steadfast as a last line. Half time. Belcoo 1-2 v 0-2 Tempo.
It was the maroons who started brightly again to cut the deficit to one point but Belcoo soon replied, Emilie McCallion, Lisa Lavery and Eve Barrett were all involved before Scarlett O’Connor drove down the middle to land a fine point. Riona Keaney was working hard while goalkeeper Serena McKeown came from her line to thwart a dangerous attack. McKeown’s kicks were good, and it was from one her side worked their next score as the ball moved downfield before Eve Barrett registered an excellent point to put her side 1-4 to 0-3 up. Late on Tempo pointed but they couldn’t find a goal they needed and Belcoo advanced to the League Final.
LEAGUE FINAL: Belcoo 0-5 v 1-5 Kinawley
Kinawley would make it five Under 13 Division 1 titles in a row on Saturday as they overcame Belcoo in a tight and tense final by two points, 1-5 (7) v 0-5. There wasn’t a whole pile to separate the two sides in this fast-paced encounter, no time and space was given, pressure was being applied at every turn and the sizeable crowd were engrossed.
Belcoo started quickly and had the opening point on the board inside 30seconds as midfielder Scarlett O’Connor raced down the right side to loft over a fine score. Kinawley bounced back with what proved to be the games only goal, Rion McKenna powering through and thumping the ball to the net, Belcoo goalkeeper Serena McKeown had no chance of saving.

The goal didn’t unsettle Belcoo, they responded with two good points to lead, Riona Keaney doing well to hold up play before Eve Barrett fired over and O’Connor joined an attack to slot over another moments later.
McKenna soon tied matters with a point while Ciara Parker drove over a Belcoo point at the other end. It was manic stuff, some great defending on both sides thwarting other efforts. Coming to half time McKenna tied proceedings again but by the interval it was the O’Rahilly’s who held a narrow lead, Eve Barrett kicking an excellent point from long range to give her side the advantage, 0-5 to 1-2 (4) the half time score.
Kinawley began the second half well, Orla Leonard came to the fore, the player of the match took charge of the contest, kicking three points in as many minutes to push her side two clear. There wasn’t to be another score in the Final but there was some tremendous passages of play, excellent blocks, pressure and battles for every ball. It was a great advertisement for Girls football.
That brings the Under 13 Girls season to a close. It was another positive season for our young players. Plenty of experience was gained and next years Under 14 Division 1 looks like it’ll be an incredibly tight competition.
