SENIORS: Belcoo 0-12 Tempo 1-10
Jul. 25, 2010
Belcoo suffered their second defeat of the season as they lost by one point to Tempo on Sunday afternoon. Belcoo had the aid of the breeze in the first period and started brightly with some good scores from play by Ronan Ferguson, Ciarán Flaherty and Paul McGrath.
Tempo took time to settle before registering their first score in the 10th minute through Aidan Breen. Ryan Keenan added another score before Belcoo's Niall McGovern finished a good move with a nice score. Ciarán Flaherty caught a James McGrath kickout before advancing forward and kicking over from an acute angle to put Belcoo 0-5 to 0-2 in front.
Daryl Keenan responded with a free before Aidan Breen registered his second score of the half. Belcoo added two more scores before the interval through a Paul McGrath placed ball and a close range Ronan Ferguson free. Ryan Keenan completed the scoring in the half to leave it Belcoo 0-7 Tempo 0-5 at the break.
Tempo came out flying in the second half and registered 1-2 in the opening moments. Ryan Keenan was again on the scoresheet before Niall McCusker collected a ball in front of goals and fired an unstoppable effort into the top right hand corner. McCusker then added a point before Belcoo managed their first score of the half. Paul McGrath evaded a few challenges and pointed from close range.
Damien Kelly was next to find the target and open up a 1-8 to 0-8 lead for the visitors. Tempo were then awarded a penalty when Belcoo goalkeeper James McGrath fumbled a high ball which was collected by Ryan Ingram, the Tempo player was then fouled by McGrath. The keeper made amends immediately as he saved the resulting penalty from Tempo substitute Brian Jackson.
This save sprung Belcoo back into life and Ciarán Flaherty knocked over a free after he was fouled by Declan Campbell. Niall McCusker kicked a good score from play for Tempo before Paul McGrath pointed a 45 to reduce the deficit to two points as the game entered the final 5minutes.
Kelly pointed from long range before Declan Leonard got forward from wing half back to put just two between the sides again. Paul McGrath added another Belcoo score to reduce the difference to one point but time was against Belcoo and Tempo held on to collect the victory.
