SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP: Belcoo 0-4 Roslea 2-13
Aug. 8, 2010
Belcoo exited the Fermanagh Senior Championship at the first hurdle for the fourth year in a row on Sunday when they suffered a 15point loss to last years beaten finalists Roslea in Brewster Park.
Belcoo only managed to score 2 points in each half while their opponents kicked 1-4 in the opening period before running out comfortable winners in a lob sided second period.
Liam Lynch opened the scoring with a long range effort before corner back Ryan Leonard got forward and equalised for Belcoo. The next score was a goal for Roslea, a long high ball into the square ended up in the Belcoo net with Seamus Quigley claiming the final touch.
Quigley was to kick a free before Ciarán Flaherty responded with a 14metre free for Belcoo. Two more Roslea scores left the half time score Belcoo 0-2 Roslea 1-4.
At half time, Belcoo introduced Stephen Maguire and Jonathan Feeley and within the first minute of the half Ciarán Flaherty fired over a good point from the right wing. Roslea did reply before Belcoo almost had a goal of their own. A high ball into the Roslea penalty area was fisted towards goal by Brian Cox, unfortunately for Belcoo, this effort cannoned off the crossbar with the keeper well beaten.
Roslea then took complete control of the game and James Sherry, Conor Quigley, Peter Lynch, Seamus Quigley and Sean Quigley all registered scores. Belcoo had one solitary score in response, this came through a Flaherty free kick but a second Roslea goal killed off any hope of a Belcoo fightback.
Seamus Quigley broke free and advanced on the Belcoo goal however James McGrath made a good save low to his right, the resulting rebound wasn't cleared by the defence and Quigley was on hand to knock the ball over the line soccer style.
In the closing stages Roslea tapped over a few more scores but it was a disappointing display from a Belcoo side who had promised so much with their league showings so far this season.
