U14's START LEAGUE WITH A WIN

Box Score

Apr. 14, 2011

Devenish 7-4 v 8-6 Belcoo

Just before the start of this Under 14 Section B league game there was a dreadful deluge of heavy rain and it made the playing conditions exceptionally difficult for all the young players. However, Devenish were first to come to terms with the conditions and had moved into a significant lead on 15 minutes after three quickfire goals. Belcoo gradually settled and by half time they had secured a two point lead as a result of a number of excellent team scores.

The second half had a similar pattern to the first with both teams looking dangerous and it became obvious that this game would be a very close encounter and the outcome unknown until the final whistle. The Belcoo defence were really playing well in the 2nd half and there were a number of encouraging individual displays throughout the pitch. It wasn’t until the final moments that Belcoo opened up a 5point lead but they conceded a late penalty. Luckily for the young Belcoo team, Devenish failed to convert and in the end Belcoo held on to register an 8-6 to 7-4 victory.

In what was a good all-round team performance, the defence in particular deserve a special mention for there hard work as they were called upon to clear the danger on numerous occasions while in attack Belcoo had 6 different players all getting on the scoresheet.

The Belcoo Team and Scorers was: Jonathan Stewart, Shane Doherty, Gary Doherty, Gerard McHugh, Daire Keaney, Aaron McTernan, Eoin Shiels, James Gillespie (0-3), Matthew McAloon (5-1), Michael Doherty (1-0), Aaron Duffy (1-0), Andrew Ferguson (1-0), Conor McAloon (0-2), James McAloon, Michael McGourty, Colm Furey, Micheal O’Cobhthaigh and Daniel Corrigan.

Next Wednesday Belcoo face Derrylin in Derrylin at 7pm.
