Box Score

May. 1, 2011

SENIORS: Tempo 0-17 v 2-8 Belcoo

Tempo sent Belcoo crashing to a second straight defeat on Sunday as they recorded a three point victory in this Senior League Division 1 tie. Tempo opened up a commanding 5point lead midway through the second half which paved the way to victory.

It was Tempo who started the better and they soon found themselves in the lead, Daryl Keenan was on target from two placed balls. It took Belcoo 8minutes to register there first score. Paul McGrath won a Tempo kickout and after a one-two with Ciaran Flaherty, McGrath fired over. Jonathan Feeley was fouled close to goal and Ronan Ferguson tapped over from 14yards to level proceedings.

Tempo, playing with a strong breeze increased their lead as Daryl Keenan was again on target from a free. Thomas Campbell added a score while wing forward Aidan Breen knocked over a score from play as Tempo led 0-5 to 0-2 after 20minutes. Belcoo’s next score was again to come from Paul McGrath after he worked a quick free kick routine with Flaherty.

In the 26th minute Belcoo worked there best move of the game to register their first goal. Paul McGrath caught a Belcoo kickout and played the ball forward to Brian Cox, Cox beat his man before he played a long ball into Jonathan Feeley. Feeley in turn slipped the ball to the onrushing Ronan Ferguson who finished low into the net beyond the advancing Stephen Jackson in the Tempo goals. This was the only time Belcoo found themselves in front as two late scores, one from a Keenan free and the other a Damian Kelly point from play, seen Tempo take a 0-7 to 1-3 lead into the interval.

From the throw in, Aidan Breen found himself one on one with James McGrath but he opted to take the point. A Neil Rogers point extended the home sides lead to three. John Carrigan responded with a point for Belcoo but Daryl Keenan added another free before he had a great chance for a goal. A combination of James McGrath and Niall Leonard kept Keenan out but he managed to pick up the rebound and fist a point. At this stage Tempo led 0-11 to 1-4.

Paul McGrath kicked a long range free while Jonathan Feeley also got on the score sheet to reduce the deficit to 2points. Thomas Campbell who was having a good game in midfield for Tempo managed to kick two scores from play, the second coming after some patient build up where Tempo retained possession for a long period of time. Daryl Keenan pointed a free from an acute angle as Tempo moved five clear. (0-14 to 1-6).

Brian Cox and Daryl Keenan traded scores before Belcoo got a fortunate goal. A long ball from Brian Cox was spilled by Jackson in the Tempo goals and Kieran Leonard was on hand to slide the ball into the empty net to give Belcoo hope of snatching something from the game. Daryl Keenan added a point from play after a strong run while Aidan Breen also registered another point to wrap up victory. Brian Cox got the last score of the game from a free as it finished Tempo 0-17 Belcoo 2-8.

Belcoo will be disappointed to lose this game as they had got themselves into a good position at half time, they only trailed by one point and they would have the aid of the strong breeze in the second half. Unfortunately it was Tempo who managed to work the ball better in the second period and ended up on the right side of the result. Belcoo’s next fixture is at home to Enniskillen Gaels on Friday 6th May at 7.30pm. Having lost two of their first three games, both sides will be looking to collect both points on offer on Friday evening.
