U10's beat Derrylin

May. 27, 2011

U10s: Derrylin 0-10 v 0-16 Belcoo

This Under 10 league game on Friday evening in terrible weather conditions in Derrylin. Belcoo set out to improve on a rather disappointing performance during their first outing at home against section leaders Enniskillen Gaels two weeks ago and were now back operating at full strength.

It was the more physical Derrylin team that started the better despite playing against the exceptionally strong breeze. After just 10 minutes they had moved into a three points to one lead. However, the Belcoo youngsters soon got to grips with the conditions and it was Belcoo who raced into a nine point to five interval lead.

Belcoo started the second half really well with two quick fire scores immediately after the break that left Belcoo in a comfortable enough position and leaving Derrylin with a lot to do even with the significant wind advantage. Over the second period both sides traded score and in the end it was a six points victory for Belcoo.

The midfield pairing of Ciaran Flanagan and Conor McAloon put a lot of pressure on the Derrylin lads all throughout the game and between them got the scores with the exception of an excellent long range score from Shane Doherty.

In the second half the Belcoo defenders were called upon more often to stiff out the Derrylin danger and in truth they really did some excellent defending with both Ronain Maguire and Lawrence McKeown performing very strongly.

The A team panel members were: Shane Doherty, Michelle Cullen, Lawrence McKeown, Ronain Maguire, Luka Gribben, Conor McAloon, Ciaran Flanagan, Oisin Leonard, Cormac McHugh, Matthew Mulvey, Damien McElgunn, Fiachra McAloon, Mark Ferguson, Patrick Walls, Oisin McGrath, Oisin O'Loughlin, Emmett McGuinness, Daire Flanagan and Oran McCann.

The Belcoo B team also put in a fine display of football with many of the girls putting in good performances. The B panel players will be listed shortly.
All in all a good night's fun in the rain for the young O’Rahilly’s and the not so young O'Rahilly's managers and mentors. Well done to all concerned.
