JUNIORS LOSE TO DEVENISH
Sep. 3, 2011
JUNIORS: Devenish 0-15 v 0-9 Belcoo
Belcoo produced a below par performance in a game that had little meaning for them considering they have already secured a place in the league final. Their opponents tonight, Devenish needed to win this game to join Belcoo in the final. They duly delivered the win they needed after pulling away in the second half.
Aaron Dolan opened the scoring from the throw after collecting a good ball from Patrick Burns and firing over from distance. Conor Keown leveled in the third minute with a great score but Belcoo pushed into a 0-4 to 0-1 lead after 10minutes. Patrick Burns, Philip Leonard and Aaron Dolan were all on target with excellent efforts from long range against a stiff breeze.
Unfortunately for Belcoo that was as good as it got. Devenish hit six points on the spin from several different players as they pressed forward in numbers and with Belcoo losing Patrick Burns from the middle of the field with injury, Belcoo really struggled to get out of their half.
Jason Love (2), Cailen Woods, Sean Treacy, Darren Brady and Martin Doherty all hit scores as Devenish dominated the remainder if the half. Belcoo who had went a whole 21minutes without a score, managed to get the last score of the half via a Damian Holleran free kick. Half Time: Devenish 0-7 Belcoo 0-5.
The second half was very much one way traffic as Devenish clipped over score after score and Belcoo had little response to the home side. Damian Holleran of Belcoo did manage to get the first score after a well worked move to reduce the deficit to one point but Devenish again hit four in a row to pull away.
Conor Keown, Love (2) and Paul Coyle were all on target as Devenish moved 0-11 to 0-6 ahead. It was again Damian Holleran who notched for Belcoo, this time a long range free from the right wing. The game had was effectively over midway through the second half and it was now been played a walking pace. Brady and Love added more scores before Seimi Rafferty advanced from wing back and should really have hit the net but his close range effort rose over the bar.
Aaron Dolan fired over his third point of the night in the 51st minute and this was to be Belcoo’s final score however Luke Robinson and Jason Love added to Devenish’s tally in the closing moments as they recorded an important win.
These two teams will face off in a few weeks time in the League Final, you would expect a better quality game with both sides probably calling upon some senior players to try and secure the title.
