SENIORS FINISH SEASON WITH A HAMMERING

Box Score

Oct. 23, 2011

SENIORS: Belcoo 1-3 v 3-13 Roslea

A skeleton Belcoo outfit suffered the embarrassment of a 16point defeat against recent Championship winners Roslea. In truth this was simple a non event. Belcoo had a bare 15 and at half time Aaron Dolan and Jonathan Feeley had raised the white flag for the home side while Roslea had hit 1-10.

Seamus Quigley clipped over a few early scores before Shane Lynch hit the first goal of the game with a low shot past stand in goalkeeper Patrick Burns. Regular keeper James McGrath was playing in midfield while junior goalkeeper Aidan Leonard was playing at wing back.

Further scores followed for Roslea as they had it all to ease in the first period. Brendan Sherlock kicked two while Seamus and Sean Quigley both fired a number of points. Peter Lynch also found the target as Roslea went in at half time leading 1-10 to 0-2.

Belcoo actually started the second half brightly and they hit the net within a few minutes. Paul McGrath carried the ball the length of the field before finding Jonathan Feeley with a pass, Feeley fed Ronan Ferguson and Ferguson fired an unstoppable effort into the roof of the net from 20yards.

Jonathan Feeley hit a point and Belcoo had a number of good attacking moves in the early part of the half only for the final ball and poor shot selections led to a loss of possession.

Having weathered a few Belcoo attacks, Roslea managed to break forward and knock over two points from play. Kevin Cosgrove and Seamus Quigley were on target. Belcoo then had Stephen Nolan go off injured and without a substitute they had to play the remainder of the half with 14 men.

The extra man told and within minutes Niall Cosgrove had the ball in the net after a free flowing move. Shane Lynch hit the net minutes later as Roslea cruised to victory.

TEAM: Patrick Burns, Ryan McGovern, Niall Leonard, Stephen Nolan, Seimi Rafferty, Eoin Leonard, Aidan Leonard, James McGrath, Brian Cox, Ronan Ferguson (1-0), Paul McGrath, Jonathan Feeley (0-2), Philip Leonard, Stephen Maguire, Aaron Dolan (0-1).
