Minor Make Top 4 with a Win

Box Score

Apr. 11, 2012

MINORS: Belcoo 2-9 v 1-8 Lisnaskea

A strong second half showing against a stiff breeze seen Belcoo Minors secure their place in the top 4 of Division 1 last Tuesday evening.

Lisnaskea won the toss and decided to play against the significant wind in the opening period. Lisnaskea got the games opening score on 4 minutes but it was Belcoo that lead for the majority of the half thanks to a double from Philip Leonard along with Matthew McAloon, Aaron Dolan and the very hard working Daniel Ray also clipping over points. Lisnaskea’s Sean Keenan hit two late points just before half time to give his side a 0-6 to 0-5 advantage at the interval.

Now with the wind advantage Lisnaskea started the 2nd half very strongly with a long range point after only 2 minutes from the restart. However, Belcoo were to improve and the pressure they applied paid off with a converted penalty by Philip Leonard. This put Belcoo into the lead, 1-5 to 0-7.

Belcoo continued to dominate and further points from Matthew McAloon, Dean McDermott and a Philip Leonard free left Belcoo well in control. Lisnaskea's only reply was a point from a free but they did have one excellent chance at goal but it was superbly saved by Patrick Sweeney.

Aaron Dolan got in on the act and scored a well taken goal and later fisted a ball over the bar for another score. In the final seconds of the game Lisnaskea scored a goal to leave the final score Belcoo 2-9 Lisnaskea 1-8.
