SENIORS SUFFER SECOND LOSS IN FOUR DAYS
Jun. 9, 2012
SENIORS: Belcoo 2-9 v 2-14 Tempo
Tempo travelled to Belcoo on Saturday evening and inflicted a second defeat in 4days on the O’Rahilly’s who now sit third from bottom in the Division 1 League.
The visitors couldn’t have asked for a better start as they fired in 2-2 in the opening 5minutes. Thomas Campbell beat Patrick Sweeney to a bouncing ball in the penalty area to fist to the net before a pin-point pass from Ciaran McElroy picked out Daryl Keenan behind the Belcoo defence and the forward coolly tucked the ball under Sweeney.
Ryan Keenan and McElroy had hit the early points as Tempo raced into a commanding lead. To there credit Belcoo, who were playing against a stiff breeze battled their way back into the contest over the next 15minutes. The home side had made the most of the foray’s forward and the direct ball into Stephen Maguire was paying off.
Ian Corrigan hit Belcoo opening score before Shain Gallagher and Shane McCabe added points from the right wing. Corner Back Ryan Leonard got on the end of a move to hit Belcoo’s fourth score before a Daryl Keenan free gave Tempo a 2-3 to 0-4 advantage.
Stephen Maguire landed a close range free while Shain Gallagher pointed from an acute angle but Ryan Keenan responded with a neat score after a quickly taken free and Rory Foy also got on the scoresheet from wing back as Tempo maintained control.
Belcoo continued to try and make amends for a poor start and were rewarded with a goal in the 23rd minute. Brian Cox launched a free kick into Maguire who broke the ball into the path of Philip Leonard and the young attacker slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.
Niall McGovern slotted over a point for Belcoo moments later to reduce the deficit to just one 2-5 to 1-7 but in the closing moments of the opening half Damien Kelly, Ciaran McElroy and Daryl Keenan all knocked over points as Tempo went in at the break leading 2-8 to 1-7.
From the restart Belcoo hit their second goal, again it was a ball into Maguire which broke to Philip Leonard and this time Leonard rifled the ball into the roof of the net past Stephen Jackson in the Tempo goals. The home side squandered a number of chances to get the equalising score before Daryl Keenan pointed a free from the left.
Shane McCabe kicked a good score on his left foot after a surging run but again the equalising score proved elusive. Kelly was again on target for Tempo while Keenan tapped over another free as Tempo took a firm grasp of proceedings.
As time was ticking away Belcoo continued with the direct ball however it was the opposition who picked up the loose ball. Keenan added further scores as his side pushed 5points clear. Shane McCabe did register his third point of the day but Tempo retained possession over the closing 5minutes to secure an important victory and in doing so they have leapfrogged Belcoo in the table.
