SENIORS: Belcoo 1-12 v 0-9 Lisnaskea

League leaders Lisnaskea suffered a six point defeat in Belcoo on Sunday afternoon as the O’Rahillys finished strong to collect the two points on offer. This game was nip and tuck throughout until a Philip Leonard goal 10minutes from time hoisted Belcoo three clear and the home side tagged on three more points in the closing stages to secure the victory.

Belcoo where quickly into their stride and held a 0-3 to 0-1 lead after 10minutes. Stephen Maguire and Daniel Kille traded early points before Paul McGrath and Jonathan Feeley landed scores from play to push Belcoo two clear.

Kille was on target with two close range frees to tie the game midway through the half but it was Belcoo who continued to dictate proceedings. Seamus Conlon and Paul McGrath were dominating midfield while Ciarán Flaherty was gathering several break balls. Feeley clipped over a free while Sean Keenan popped up with a point to keep the game level.

A Stephen Maguire point gave Belcoo the advantage again and from the resulting restart Ciaran Flaherty gathered possession and slotted over a point. It was Lisnaskea who finished the half the better though as they rattled off three late scores to take a 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

Mark Little registered the first score before Niall McElroy slotted over after some patience build-up play. Daniel Kille kicked the best score of the half on the 30minute mark with a wonderfully hit long range point with the outside of the boot.

The second period was only minutes old when Philip Leonard tied the game again. Stephen Maguire and Niall McElroy traded points before Belcoo were awarded a penalty for a foul on Maguire. Paul McGrath’s well hit spot kick was turned around the post by netminder Andrew Kearns. From the resulting 45 the ball fell to Niall Leonard who pointed for the home side.

Having survived a goal chance Lisnaskea, who had the wind advantage in this half never kicked on. Some wayward shooting and impressive defensive work from Belcoo ensured the visitors only managed one more score in the half.

The home side hit their goal 10minutes from time as a sideline ball from Feeley dropped into the square and Philip Leonard was on hand to gather the ball and drill it to the net. Feeley added a point moments later before a Kevin Swift point left the game 1-10 to 0-9 with 7minutes remaining.

Upon the restart Belcoo controlled matters and Paul McGrath finished an impressive move with a neat score before Philip Leonard hit a magnificent point from close to the sideline to give Belcoo a deserved 1-12 to 0-9 victory.
