SENIORS: Erne Gaels 1-12 v 1-12 Belcoo

In front for the majority of this contest Belcoo may feel they let a point slip as opposed to gaining a point from this drawn match in Belleek on Sunday afternoon. Belcoo were in a strong position at the interval but a resilient Erne Gaels side continued to peg back the score and eventually levelled matters a few minutes from time.

The visitors had the better of the opening exchanges; some fluid attacking play paved the way for four neat scores in the opening 10minutes. Jonathan Feeley clipped over two points while Ciaran Flaherty and Shane McCabe registered from distance. The slow starting home were eventually to find an opening score from Ryan Lyons before Barry McCann added a second.

Belcoo, who were on top in most sectors of the field at this time established a 4point advantage when Shain Gallagher and Paul McGrath pointed midway through the half. Brian Mullan hit a point for Erne Gaels but Belcoo would get a goal moments later.

Shain Gallagher won possession from a kick out, advanced forward, played a one-two with Feeley before fisting the ball across the square for Aaron Dolan to palm into the net on 20minutes. In the remainder of the half Brian Mullan hit a two fine points for his side while centre half back Darragh Keown also hit the target however McCabe and Ian Corrigan registered for Belcoo, giving them a 1-8 to 0-5 interval lead.

The home team returned for the break revitalised whilst the visitors who had put together some fine attacking moves in the opening half, struggled to penetrate the home defensive in this 30minutes. Seamus Ryder tapped over an early free before Barry McCann and Mullan had cut the deficit to three. Jonathan Feeley, who would score all 4 of Belcoo points in this half knocked over two of these to keep his side 1-10 to 0-8 ahead.

Ryder landed another free before the hosts hit the net, a high ball from Paul Rooney into the danger zone was punched to the net to leave just two between the sides. Rooney would land the next point to put the minimum between the sides. It was getting tense within the ground as both teams knew the importance of this fixture.

Feeley would kick a free to put Belcoo ahead again but the Erne Gaels full back McGuillion, advanced forward and landed a point from 40metres to tie the game. Feeley would again kick a free for Belcoo but a late point from an Erne Gaels substitute ensured the points were shared.

This may prove to be a vital point for these two sides as both Teemore and Newtown suffered defeat meaning Belcoo and Erne Gaels sit 3 clear of the relegation places with 5games remaining. Belcoo have a big home game with Newtownbutler while Erne Gaels travel to Tempo in the next round of fixtures on Sunday 12th August.
