SENIORS: Belcoo 0-6 v 0-6 Newtownbutler

For the second straight week, Belcoo were never behind in the fixture but couldn’t hold out for the victory. After a drawn game in Belleek last weekend they could only manage a draw at home to Newtownbutler in what was an error ridden game between two sides fighting to remain in the top flight of Fermanagh football.

Both sides struggled with the swirling wind at the Lough MacNean venue as several passes when astray and shots failed to find the target. The slippery underfoot conditions also paved the way for mistakes in what was a game neither could afford to loss.

A few missed chances early by Newtown who had the wind with them in the opening period allowed Belcoo to take the lead some 7minutes into the game. Aaron Dolan on target from close range for the home side. Jonathan Feeley added a point from play for Belcoo before Niall Mohan fisted a long Ryan Carson free over to open their account.

At the midway stage Paul McGrath and Jonathan Feeley landed frees while Carson did likewise for Newtown. Belcoo 0-4 to 0-2 to the good. Carson landed another free to reduce the deficit before Feeley landed a point from play near the end of the half to give Belcoo a 0-5 to 0-3 interval lead.

Newtown’s Paul Johnston suffered a bad knee injury near the end of the half and had to be stretchered off. Hopefully it is not as serious as it looks.

In a poor second period both teams had only managed a point a piece by the 20th minute of the half. Carson again clipping over a close range free while Niall McGovern fired over a score from a tight angle for Belcoo.

The visitors where then awarded a penalty for a jersey pull with 8minutes remaining but Jarelth Jackman fired his effort wide of the left post. Newtown did however manage to get a point via a Carson free 4minutes from time and they found an equaliser late in the game when Liam Leonard kicked a score from the right wing.
