Under 12's Hold On For Win

Aug. 13, 2012

Under 12s: Belcoo 5-6 v 1-11 Teemore

Belcoo Under 12s put the disappointment of last weekend's defeat against Maguiresbridge behind them and took a hard fought victory over Teemore. Belcoo were without a number of first team players but those who came into the team put in a very good allround display. This game played on Saturday 11th August in very warm conditions with Belcoo playing the first half with a significant wind advantage.

Belcoo started extremely well with the midfield pairing of Ciaran Flanagan and Conor McAloon dominating proceedings. Belcoo went into a commanding lead at half time thanks to Ciaran Flanagan (3-1) Conor McAloon (1-3) and McElgunn (0-1) accounting for the scores in that 30minute period.

The midfielders were very lively and demonstrated the art of high fielding and excellent tackling. Belcoo can also thank their young goalie, Oisin McGrath who pulled of a number of excellent saves throughout. Damien McElgunn put in a very good performance at half back and Oran McCann intercepted a number of balls at crucial stages in the match. Up front it was Fiachra McAloon that worked exceptionally hard.

The second half proved to be all Teemore. They made great use of the wind and put Belcoo under serious pressure. Belcoo looked very tired in the second half. However, they managed to get a point from Conor McAloon and a goal from super sub, 7 year old Josh Killilea. Josh is a real prospect for the future and only turns eight later this week. All the Belcoo players worked hard in the closing stages and defended well to claim a seven point win.

The team returns to league action next Saturday with a home game against Erne Gaels on Saturday 18th August at 4pm. The Belcoo team - Oisin McGrath, Oran McCann, Emmett McGuinness, Damien McElgunn, Dara Flanagan, Conor McAloon, Laurance McKeown, Ciaran Flanagan, Fiachra McAloon, Oisin Leonard and Mark Ferguson. The used subs included Cain Stewart and Josh Killilea.
