VITAL WIN FOR SENIORS
Aug. 25, 2012
SENIORS: Belcoo 1-9 v 1-6 Roslea
Belcoo picked up a vital win in the Senior League as they battled their way to a 1-9 to 1-6 victory over Roslea. Having built up a seven point lead with the aid of a gale force win in the opening half they managed to nullify the Roslea attack in the second period and hold out for the win.
This win lifts the Seniors three points clear of the relegation zone with three games to play after Devenish defeated Teemore and Newtown beat Erne Gaels. Elsewhere St. Joseph’s returned to the top of the table with a win in Derrygonnelly while Tempo and Lisnaskea played out a draw.

Belcoo took their time to get into their stride as Roslea were retaining possession and playing short passes against the wind. The visitors did manage to register the first score as Sean Quigley landed a free.
The home side got on the scoreboard when Shain Gallagher pointed from distance while Shane McCabe, Stephen Maguire and Ciaran Flaherty all landed scores over the next 10minutes as Belcoo took a commanding 0-4 to 0-1 lead. Niall Cosgrove responded with a fisted point for but it was Belcoo who finished the half on top despite some poor wides.
Shane McCabe fired over from the left wing before he found the net in the 26th minute. A high ball into Stephen Maguire broke to McCabe and the attacker hit the net from close range. Maguire landed the final score of the half to give Belcoo a 1-6 to 0-2 advantage.
Sean Quigley would register all Roslea’s second half scores and the forward was on target from a wind assisted 50metre free kick. Stephen Maguire responded from a close range free before Quigley fisted a dropping ball to the net on 40minutes to cut Belcoo lead to just three points.
In the closing quarter both sides struggled for scores. Seamus Conlon did point from Belcoo but Quigley’s free cancelled that score before the Roslea man hit another to close the gap to two points. In the last attack Emmet Scollan drilled over a point to secure a three point victory for the home side.
