Juniors Lose Out to Roslea

JUNIORS: Belcoo 0-8 v 1-11 Roslea
Roslea came to Belcoo on Saturday evening knowing they needed a win to avoid relegation and they duly picked up the victory by a score of 1-11 to 0-8. Belcoo to be fair where missing several regulars but remained in the contest until a fortunate 45th minute goal from Gerard Sherlock gave the visitors some breathing space.
It was a low key affair throughout and by the interval Roslea held a 0-6 to 0-4 lead. Declan Leonard opening the scoring for Belcoo from the right wing before midfielder Aidan McMahon landed a long range point for Roslea. Aaron Dolan and Shane McMahon traded scores before Belcoo missed a wonderful goal chance.
A sweeping move seen the ball played into Kieran Conlon at full forward, Conlon’s shot at goal hit the crossbar and rebounded to Eunan Mullally 4yards from goal but the attacker somehow screwed his shot wide with the goals at his mercy.
Belcoo would rue this missed opportunity as Roslea would hit three points in a row. Aidan McMahon, James McMahon and Gerard Sherlock all on target for the Shamrocks. Belcoo reduced the deficit to one point with scores from play by Damian Holleran and Shain Gallagher but on the stroke of half time Aidan McMahon fired over his third score of the half to give his side the 0-6 to 0-4 lead.
Ruairi McGuinness got Roslea going in the second half with a well taken point before Ian Corrigan fired over a 45 however the scores dried up for both sides over the next 10minutes. Roslea introduced Ryan McCormack, Shane Lynch and Niall Cosgrove to their attack and a shot from the latter dropped into the square allowing Sherlock to fist the only goal pushing Roslea into a 1-7 to 0-5 lead.
Ian Corrigan would land a second 45 of the half and Aaron Dolan also pointed to bring just three between the sides but two more scores from Ruairi McGuiness kept the visitors in control of proceedings.
A goal was now needed for Belcoo and after a strong run Ian Corrigan fired straight at the visiting goalkeeper while Damian Holleran also came close with a shot across goals. In the end Roslea chipped over two more points while Holleran registered a consolation point for the hosts as they finished up 6points adrift.
For Belcoo Shane McAloon and Martin Corrigan excelled at the back while Jack O’Dolan showed well in attack. For Roslea the experience trio of substitutes helped them see out the game although Aidan McMahon caught the eye in the opening period.
