Match Report: Belcoo 3-10 Roslea 4-9
Jun. 20, 2009
Belcoo 3-10 Roslea 4-09
Manor House SFL Division One; An unbelievable turn around of events saw Roslea recover from ten points down early in the second half to take the points against Belcoo on Sunday.
The win also lifts the Shamrocks above Belcoo in the table and into top spot as they continue with the impressive form they have shown since gaining promotion back to the top flight.
However, there didn"t look to be any way back for them after Gavin Leonard had bagged Belcoo"s second goal at the start of the second half, and although Roslea hit straight back with a goal from Sean Quigley, Stephen Maguire seemed to have secured the victory for Belcoo with his side"s third goal of the game.
From this to the finish though it was all Roslea with the Quigley brothers, Seamus and Sean, notching further goals to level the game before Seamus Quigley drilled over a 45 to put his side in front. Sean Quigley then added another point for Roslea as they claimed a two point win.
It was the home side though who dominated matters in the opening half and were good value for their six point half time lead, 1-07 to 1-01.
Stephen Maguire was proving a real handful for the Roslea defence at full forward and corner forward Gavin Leonard showed his eye for goal, firing in Belcoo"s first of the game. With Maguire, Niall McGovern, Ciaran Flaherty and Paul McGrath among the points Belcoo began to open up a sizeable lead with Roslea only being kept in touch due to a goal from Padraig Cosgrove and a Sean Quigley point.
Matters got even worse for Roslea on the resumption as Belcoo tagged on a goal and a point to put ten between the sides. McGrath set up Gavin Leonard and he tucked away his second goal of the encounter.
However, Roslea responded immediately to this with Sean Quigley rattling the back of the Belcoo net before Seamus Quigley (pictured right) lobbed over a couple of points although having got the upperhand for a spell they suffered another set back when Niall McGovern and Paul McGrath linked up to provide Stephen Maguire with a goal scoring chance that he gleefully accepted.
It was Roslea though who began to take control of the contest following this with Niall Cassidy, Peter Lynch and substitute Ruairi McGuinness picking up a lot of the ball in the middle third. A fine goal from Seamus Quigley then brought the gap back to five before the same player rifled over two points to leave three dividing the sides.
And Roslea then levelled matters when Sean Quigley got the final touch on a high ball among a crowd of players to push the ball past Belcoo goalkeeper James McGrath.
Seamus Quigley then banged over an excellent 45 to nudge Roslea in front by a point and Sean Quigley made sure that they would be returning to Roslea as the league leaders with the final point of the game.
Roslea had some excellent second half performances with Lynch, McGuinness and Cassidy all playing their part in the comeback while the Quigley brothers got the scores to take them over the line.
Stephen Maguire was the pick of the Belcoo players on the night with Roslea using three different men to mark him over the course of the game while Brian Cox and Sean McNulty also had some good moments.
