U-16's Boy's Into League Final
Aug. 14, 2009
The Under 16 boys have reached the league final following a 3-12 to 1-7 win over Derrylin on Thursday night. After a shaky start which seen Derrylin take a 3points to nil lead our boys responded with a sustained period of pressure which yielded 2-5 without reply. Two points from Philip Leonard along with 1-1 from both Aaron Dolan and Dylan Stewart set us on our way. A Dean McDermott point put us in a commanding position as we approached half time before two quickfire points from Ronan Meehan on the stroke of half time seen Belcoo lead 2-7 to 0-4 at the break.
The second half was a low scoring affair but some excellent defending and goalkeeper by Terry Cullen, Daniel Ray and our superb keeper Paddy Sweeney ensured Derrylin were always going to find scoring difficult. Philip Leonard scored a good individual goal with 15minutes remaining to put Belcoo into an unassailable lead before Dylan Stewart, Aaron Dolan and Seamus Rafferty knocked over points. The defence will be disappointed to have conceded their first goal of the campaign in the dying minutes but Paddy Sweeney can be forgiven for conceding considering he's made save after save throughout the season.
A great team performance was capped by the excellent Eoin Gallagher who ventured forward in the last few moments and kicked his first point of the season following a good move.
The Under 16's now face Maguiresbridge in the Final, Belcoo defeated the 'bridge by 2points in the league thanks to a very late Mark Corrigan goal, so a tight game in anticipated again.
