Scrimmage set for Monday night

Feb. 15, 2017

We are set to scrimmage the Carolina Astros 10u team on Monday night at 6:30 for a little over an hour. They are a very good 10u team in the region and state. They recently were one of the teams that won the Carolina Travel Sports 11U and Under Team of the Year at a recent function. The Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League Awards are given out to local baseball and softball teams and individual players who excel from our area.

Jamie Summerlin coaches this team, and does a great job. There are a few Belmont boys on that team, so our kids will be familiar with them as well. We appreciate Jamie, the Astros parents and Tug Deason for letting us scrimmage at Harper Park. They have less to gain from playing a 9u team, but understand that we look to play against the best around here and this very steep challenge should be the toughest competition we will see all year. Nice to know your first kid pitch "game" is against an older Championship type team, isn't it? One thing is for sure - we will continue to teach our boys to compete against any level competition, no matter how great. Learning that lesson and facing these type challenges now is a big reason why it isn't a big deal later when they hit Middle and High School sports. Baseball players are made from these experiences.

Please try to be at Harper Park in Stanley by 6pm if possible. We are going to take a little infield before the game for about 10 minutes, and then jump into the batting cage for about 10-12 minutes before the scrimmage. I know it's tough getting there- just please do your best. The park will be open by 5:30 in the event that you are able to be there early.
