Bandits preparation continues

May. 1, 2017

After this weekend, it is nice to go back and take stock of where we are at around halfway through our season. The 9u boys have played 21 games total thus far. We are 16-5 which is not exactly where we wanted to be, but you will lose games if you play enough baseball. It happens. But, further analysis is telling.....

We started off the season playing in two Umpire training games. Those games were an hour and fifteen minutes (if that) max time. We absolutely got beat in those two one-hour long games.....so there is no excuse there. In one game we walked around 15 batters, and the other game we had a couple crucial plays and couple walks that cost us late. I feel like we would have had a pretty good shot to win those games if we are playing in one hour 45 minute games with regular umpires.  Still, 0-2 on that weekend and they absolutely all count.

Since then though, we are 16-3. We have lost to absolute stud teams. Carolina Havoc we lost a game (0-2). We have lost twice to the Titans (based out of Tega Cay) by the scores of 6-8 and 7-10, respectively. So, we have those three "regular season" losses by a total of 7 runs against teams with a combined record of 21-3 thus far. So, be proud of the work your player has put in with our team, and on their own. It shows.

The Titans are 12-1, and the Havoc is 9-2 (of which, 1 of those losses was to the Belmont Bandits so excluding that game out these two teams combined win percentage is 91% against the rest of the field). So, both these teams are extremely good, and can obviously play with anybody. It is good to see that we are competing with the best teams in our region, and look to hopefully make some strides from this point forward in the season. Baseball is about the grind. Should we rest on our laurels and just play baseball games and not practice very much???? We will not. We will practice. We will get better. We will remember our mistakes, and work on correcting them. We will know we aren't the best around. We will continue to attempt to play to our ability every time out. We will, we will, we will.........practice this Wednesday and Thursday.
