Box Score

Jul. 21, 2017

Well we turned out to be Even at Flowe field today. We won 1, and we lost 1. We were consistent in scoring 11 runs in both games;  it stunk that in the second game we gave up more than 11 runs. That always hurts your chances of winning...being outscored.

Solid teams in this tournament obviously, and so we more than have our hands full from here on out as tomorrow looks to be even tougher than today was. If we're lucky, some of these teams will catch a stomach virus and we will have a chance to compete a little more. The first game was decent, despite our typical early morning games being bad. Our rust showed throughout the day, but our mental lapses and slow twitch reactions spelled doom for game two.

Game one was against the Richmond Rockies. In a game dubbed "Sweet Melissa", we had a talk with the boys and let them know that one of our own was from the stomping grounds from where these boys currently live. We wanted to win it for Mrs. Pruitt, and we were able to do that. We hit better in this game, than in game two. We saw great pitching in both games, from each team. Leading the team here was Brody Crawford- getting on 3 times in 3 at bats and scoring 3 runs. Brody was 1.000% on the day reaching base, which is always nice. Zeke Pruitt, Aydan Bradley and Chris Wurster all hammered big doubles in this game. We had plenty of baserunners the whole game, and did a lot of good things. Dalton Skipper got a bunt down in this game, which started a late rally and after a thrown ball allowed us sneak some runs in. We ended up winning 11-4. We gave up all 4 runs against us, in one tough inning. Those boys from Richmond County can really swing it, and they challenged us all day long.

Game two was against Aces-Edwards. This team is a really good team....and we played REALLY badly against them. They are super solid, and have more pitching than the Braves do - but our mental mistakes and spacey play was very much out of character for March - much less July. Our mistakes overshadowed that early bad call we had to endure;  thank you parents for not climbing the fence. Everybody in the park saw it except the two who need to see it. That's baseball. They admitted it after the inning, but the damage in that inning was done, and the momentum wasn't stopped. It would've helped to get the correct call, but we didn't lose because of that one situation. We lost because we didn't play Bandit baseball. I knew we should have entered that damned skim-boarding competition instead. Ay dios Mio. Benjamin Brody Crawford led the team again in this one from the plate going 3-3 with a walk, double and two singles. He also scored two runs. Zeke Henry Pruitt got a hit, walked and scored two runs as well. Landon King pitched solidly all day long, and contributed a double in this game. Aydan Bradley smoked a double to spark a late game rally. We didn't get a lot of hits in this game, and overall didn't hit the ball very hard to make their defense make errors. It was the story of the game, along with some of our own walks we gave up from the mound. So, we lost 11-13 to a very, very good team. In short, we looked as bad in the field as we have all year long....even though we work real hard and long on fundamentals and scenarios....(close up shot of Coach Crawford with a slow, lonely tear running down his face.) And now my bitter hands...Cradle broken glass...Of what was everything. Tomorrow is a new day. I tend to press the pedal down more in a game of chicken, so tomorrow let's get nuts.
