Baldwinsville Invitational

Sep. 28, 2017

The Lawtons, Shyanne and Allen, stole the show on Saturday, September 23 at the 66th Annual Baldwinsville Invitational.    The Mod Squad Girls were first off the starting line with Kathryn White leading the way with a time of 11:34, which put her in the top 30% of finishers.  The girls team ran as an incomplete team.  The Modified Boys finished 23rd out of the 25 complete teams in the race and were led by the effort of Gavin Marsh who ran 10:21 on the 1.5 mile course.  He finished 67th of 281 finishers.

By the time the Varsity Girls toed the line the temperature had climbed into the mid-70's and the dewpoint was in the 60's (MUGGY!).  That didn't prevent the state's 14th ranked team from running well enough to vault them up 2 spots in the rankings this week.  Shyanne Lawton finished in 18th place, Katie Flynn was 20th and Sarah Knox placed 23rd to lead the girls to a fourth place finish out of 23 complete teams.  There were 219 finishers in their race.  In addition, Lindsey Szalach, Zoe Nestoryak and Loretta Wachter all ran over a minute faster than they had on the same course last year.

The Varsity Boys, running in still hotter conditions, placed 20th of 35 complete teams.  Newcomer Allen Lawton was the first Long Blue Line runner across the finish line in 17:53 on the 2.95 mile course.  He was followed closely by Matt Conklin.  Sophomore Dante Hovancik continued his remarkable running knocking nearly 2 minutes off of his time from last year.  Another first year Long Blue Liner, Daniel Flynn also ran well, finishing in 19:27 and Zach Szigeti lopped a minute off his time from 2016 (19:50).

The always competitive and exciting McQuaid Invitational is next up on the docket!  Run like the wind people.
