Newark Valley Invitational
Oct. 14, 2017
A whole host of varsity guys ran personal records including a couple who broke 20 minutes for the first time to highlight a solid showing by both the girls and boys on a nearly perfect day for racing. Allen Lawton broke 19 minutes for the first time running 18:33.8 to lead the boys to a middle of the pack team finish. Dante Hovancik dipped under the 20 minute barrier for the first time running 19:37.9 and Daniel Flynn did the same in 19:45.4. Zach Szigeti just missed doing the same but still ran a PR of 20:06.2.
The girls team finished as the 3rd place small school team but showed the effects of running 5 races in 14 days! Katie Flynn was our leader on this day running one of her favorite courses in 20:58.6. Shyanne Lawton followed in 21:08.4 and Sarah Knox was 8 places back in 21:32.5. Lindsey Szalach (PR - 22:23) and Zoe Nestoryak (PR - 23:47.2) completed our scoring. Loretta Wachter also PR'd with a 24:35.
The Modified teams were once again highlighted by the performances of Kathryn White and Lucas McPeak. They ran the 1.5 mile course in 11:03.7 and 10:43.7 respectively. Gavin Marsh, Collin Darrow, James Dunn and Cooper Confer completed the scoring for the boys. The girl were once again incomplete.
I'm looking forward to seeing these Long Blue Liners run on a fast course (Fortin Park, Oneonta) with fresh legs in two weeks at the STAC Championships. Keep working people. Race results merely reflect how well you have trained.
