2017 NYSPHAA Championships

Nov. 12, 2017

Katie Flynn, clearly one of the best to ever don the uniform of the Long Blue Line, finished off her career by running in absolutely the worst conditions I have ever witnessed for any cross country race, let alone a NYPHSAA Championship race.    The 2017 version of the state championships was held on the Wayne Central School grounds, just outside of Rochester.  Three inches of rain had fallen on the poorly-drained course followed by the coldest temperatures we had seen since last winter which made it very slick and muddy in parts and heavily-rutted and frozen in others.  Needless to say, everyone ran more carefully and as a result, more slowly than they normally would have.  When it was over however, Katie had finished with a furious kick to match her 39th place finish from last year.  She, and everyone else including spectators, was caked in mud and chilled to the bone.  Well done Kate!  We are sure going to miss you next year!
