Nov 3, 2014 - Sectional Meet

It was an unseasonably hot morning at Crossroads park, the site of the sectionals for the Arizona High School cross country championships. There are three sectional races in Arizona and the top 7 teams from each race, along with the top 25 individuals, each qualify for the State Champioship meet on November 8th at Cave Creek golf course.

The Chandler girls came into the race running with confidence after executing their race plan to perfection at the City meet. The Wolves finished second to last in the sectional meet last year and they were aiming for a lot higher this time around. Led by Junior, Alexis Nichols, the girls ran an excellent team race again to capture 3rd place overall. Just 4 points out of 2nd and 10 points from 1st. Nichols, finished the race in 3rd overall, while super frosh Ava Hamilton came across the line in 7th place and Gabby Enns crossed in 10th. Sam Miller and Verenise Munoz ran a great second half of the race to steadily move up in the field and take 29th and 40th, respectively. Jordan Alvarez and Lanie Hindenes were the 6th and 7th finishers for the Wolves. The 3rd place finish is the highest finish for the Wolves in the last 10 years and establishes them as a force to be reckoned with at the state level.

The boys team came into the meet looking to improve on their position from last year when they took 13th place overall. They were led up front by junior, Michael Gonzales, and senior, Austin Shumaker, who finished 40th and 52nd, respectively. Conner Hinsch, Daniel Lander, and Nate Smith rounded out the scoring for the Wolves. The Chandler boys finished 11th overall as a team and will look to build upon that again next year.

Nov 3, 2014 - Chandler City Meet

Congratulations to the girls team for winning the Chandler City meet. The formidable trio of Alexis Nichols, Ava Hamilton, and Gabby Enns finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall to lead the Wolves to victory and garner first team all-city accolades in the process. Sam Miller and Verenise Munoz also ran great races and earned 2nd team all-city honors. Jordan Alvarez ran her first race of the season after coming back from an ankle fracture to set a personal best and Julia Cabada-Escobedo also set a bit personal best to cap off her season.

The boys team finished 5th overall, narrowly missing 4th by just 1 point. The boys team was led by newcomer Austin Shumaker in a time of 17:54. Shumaker, missed 2nd team all-city by just one place. Freshman, David Manuel, had a big PR to finish his season by cutting off just over 1 minute from his previous best. Sophomore, Cameron Allen, also had a huge PR as he cut a full minute off his time as well.
