May 23, 2017 - Cougars Fall in Conference Tournament in Extras
Junior outfielder, Ryan Lee hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the second inning, giving the #4 Cougars a 3-0 lead over visiting #5 Chancellor in last night's Conference 19 Tournament Quarterfinal at Rick Holcomb Field. The Cougars would lose that lead on a defensive miscue in the fifth, but battle back to knot the game at four apiece on an RBI groundout by Alex Kobersteen, scoring Mathew Bowen who doubled to leadoff the frame, his second hit of the night. The Chargers plated two runs in the top of the eighth and the Cougars could not answer as they fell for the third time in 2017 to Chancellor, 6-4.
Senior right-hander, Brandon Haynes took the ball for the Cougars. Haynes worked four (plus) innings, allowed four (three earned) runs, on seven hits, while striking out three and walking three. Junior Alex Kobersteen suffered the loss (his fifth) working four innings in relief, on while striking one hit while striking out six and walking one.
The Cougars finish the 2017 season, 8-10. Chancellor advances to the Conference 19 Tournament semifinals and plays #1 seeded Louisa.

May 19, 2017 - Cougar Cubs Dominate in Championship Victory
The Cougar Cubs finished the 2017 campaign with an exclamation mark yesterday afternoon, winning their eleventh straight game in dominant fashion. They defeated the Chargers of Chancellor by a final score of 14-0 in five innings.
Sophomore right-hander, Jakob Glunt went the distance on the mound for the Cougar Cubs. Glunt allowed just one hit, walked two, and struck out five in his most dominant performance of the season. He finished the season 5-1 with a 1.11 ERA and struck out 33 in 44 innings of work.
Freshman first baseman, Ty Lowe went 2-4 at the plate and drove in four Cougar Cub runs. Sophomore third baseman, Ethan Critz was 2-3 including a triple, driving in three runs. Sophomore designated hitter, Caolan Walsh had two hits of his own, drove in two runs, and scored three on the afternoon. Freshman shortstop, Owen Reilly went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Connor Dymon, a sophomore catcher went 3-3 on the day while Addie Burrow tripled and scored three runs, Drew Millner singled and scored twice, Dustin Gough had an RBI triple and scored twice, and courtesy runner, Logan Howard scored two runs on the afternoon for the Cougar Cubs.
The Cougar Cubs finish the 2017 season with a record of 15-3. Coach Acors had this to say about the Championship victory: "I am so proud of the job these young men did this spring! We got a complete buy in from each and every one of them right from the get go. They are a fun group to be around, diligent in their work, sharp in their approach, and certainly a group of winners. Special thanks to Coach Meek, Coach Primus, Coach Keranen, and Coach Knisley for their efforts, day in day out in building our program. The future is bright here at CHS and I am looking forward to what it holds for our program. Great job, men! Revel in your accomplishments and come back hungry in the fall. Don't forget to 'work while you wait.'"

May 17, 2017 - Cougars Win Season Finale, Move onto Tournament Play
Strong pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting helped the Cougars win their regular season finale on the road yesterday, 6-4 over Caroline.
Junior right-hander, Alex Kobersteen (3-4) started on the mound for the Cougars. After allowing three earned in the bottom of the first, he settled in and allowed nothing for the next five innings. Kobersteen scattered six hits, walked just one, and struck out six over his six innings of work. Sophomore, Patrick Millner pitched the final frame and allowed one (unearned) on one hit while walking one. Millner earned his first save of the year.
The Cougars cut into the Cavaliers lead in the second when senior designated hitter, Brandon Haynes scored on a bases loaded walk to second baseman, Cole Ely. Kobersteen who was hit by a pitch scored on a single by sophomore shortstop, Trevor Ferares. The Cougars took the lead in the fifth when senior first baseman, Patrick Caiafa singled. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by third sacker, Stephen Bowen. Caiafa scored on a single to right-center by Haynes. Haynes scored when junior catcher, Mathew Bowen doubled to right-center field. Courtesy runners, Brandon Raines, running for M. Bowen and Luke Harvey, running for Kobersteen who singled, both scampered home with the Cougars fifth and sixth runs on a sharp single to left by junior left fielder, Ryan Lee.
The Cougars (8-9) have the rest of the week off as the regular season winds down across the state. They will play on Monday, May 22 in the first round of the Conference 19 Tournament. Game time and their opponent will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season this evening. Stay tuned for updates.
May 17, 2017 - Cougar Cubs Finish on Winning Note
The Cougar Cubs scored early and scored often yesterday afternoon at home against Caroline as they defeated the Cavaliers by a final score of 10-3.
Addie Burrow, Dustin Gough, Logan Howard, and Caolan Walsh posted multi-hit games while Burrow scored four times and Gough twice. Gough and freshman infielder, Owen Reilly each drove in two runs for the Cougar Cubs.
Sophomore right-hander, Drew Millner started on the mound for the Cougar Cubs. He worked three and a third innings, allowed two earned on no hits while striking out three and walking six. Freshman righty, Jayden Tetzlaff picked jup the win in two-thirds of an inning in relief. Caolan Walsh and Ty Lowe each tossed a scoreless inning of relief on the afternoon while Jack Leake allowed an unearned run in one inning of work.
The Cougar Cubs finish the regular season with a 14-3 record. Rick Holcomb Field will host the Conference 19 JV Champiosnhip game on Thursday, May 18 at 4:30 pm featuring your Cougar Cubs against an oppponent yet to be determined.
