Mar 14, 2018 - Burrow's Walk-Off Triple Wins 2018 Opener

The Cougars trailed most of the season opening game yesterday afternoon at Rick Holcomb Field and found themselves down one run as they entered the bottom half of the seventh against the Bears of Riverbend.  Senior shortstop, Garrett Howard drew a leadoff walk.  Howard advanced to second on junior second baseman, Cole Ely's sacrifice bunt attempt while Ely reached first safely on an error.  Ely was replaced by junior speedster and utility man, Dustin Gough.  Sophomore center fielder, Addie Burrow after attempting twice to move the runners with bunt attempts worked the count to full.  Burrow smashed the 3-2 offering into the left-center field gap for a bases clearing triple, plating Howard to tie, and the game winner in Gough.

Senior right-hander, Alex Kobersteen started on the mound for the Cougars.  He took a no-decision on the day after allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out four and issuing three bases on balls.  Junior, Noah Breivik pitched a perfect fifth striking out one.  Senior right-hander, Luke Harvey earned his first win of 2018 tossing the final two frames, allowing one (earned) run on one hit while walking two.

The Cougars (1-0, 0-0) travel to Colonial Beach on Friday, March 16 for a 4:30 pm non-district matchup with the Drifters.
