Cougars Fall Just Short to Wildcats
Mar. 24, 2017
The Cougars played host to the Wildcats of Mountain View High School yesterday afternoon at Holcomb Field. The Cougars jumped out to an early 8-1 lead, but a rally by Mountain View and a costly late miscue allowed the winning run to scamper across the dish in the top of the seventh, securing victory for the Wildcats, 11-10.
Senior right-hander, Brandon Haynes took the ball for the Cougars and worked four (plus) innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits, while striking out five and walking three. On the hook for his first win, he gave way in the fifth to sophomore, Patrick Millner who allowed five runs (four earned) on two hits and three bases on balls, while striking out one. Junior stopper, Luke Harvey (0-1) suffered the loss on the day, tossing two and a third innings in relief of Millner. Harvey allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits, striking out one Wildcat hitter.
Offensively the Cougars tallied nine hits on the day. Junior outfielder, Alex Kobersteen doubled and singled, driving in three runs while scoring one. Senior first sacker, Patrick Caiafa doubled, drove in two Cougar runs and scored twice. Junior third baseman, Stephen Bowen posted two hits and two RBI on the day and junior second baseman Garrett Howard scored four times for the Cougars.
The Cougars fall to 0-2 on the young season and host the Massaponax Panthers this afternoon at 4:30 pm.
