Strong and Efficient, Kobersteen Shuts Out Blue Devils

Junior right-hander, Alex Kobersteen tossed a complete game, four hit shutout Saturday morning at Culpeper, blanking the Blue Devils by a final score of 5-0. Kobersteen (2-3, 2 S) struck out six and walked just one on the afternoon.
At the plate, the Cougars did all their damage in the first two frames. Junior third baseman, Stephen Bowen doubled to left-center and scored on a single by junior catcher, Mathew Bowen in the first. Junior left fielder, Ryan Lee led off the second with a single, promptly stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Back to back walks loaded the bases for Stephen Bowen. Bowen hit a sacrifice fly, plating Lee, though a runner was thrown out trying to take third. Howard stole second and scored on a two-out double by Kobersteen. Kobersteen was replaced at second base by courtesy runner and JV call-up, Dustin Gough. Gough scored on another two-out double by senior first baseman, Brandon Haynes. Haynes scored on a two-out single by Mathew Bowen making the score 5-0 after two. Stephen Bowen finished 3-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Mathew Bowen went 2-4 with 2 RBI and Ryan Lee finished 2-3 and a run scored.
The Cougars (6-5) host Chancellor on Tuesday, May 2 at 7:30 pm at Rick Holcomb Field.
